Can''t say I'm doing cartwheels about this. Feels like money wasted on any fee and just increases the wage bill for no great gain. Even if part of this is offset by Rudd/Sterr going on loan I'd personally rather see Rudd as No.2 and develped in-house and use the money spent on Bunn to help get a forward in.
look at it another way: ruddy has had literally NO competition for his place since he joined. now we all think he's done a very good job for us during his tenure but if being pushed by a better keeper gets another 5-10% out of him then i'm all for it. plus, if he gets suspended or injured i'll feel 100% more comfortable with mark bunn between the sticks than with either rudd or steer, as good a prospects as they are. 12 months ago we all expressed concern that lambert didn't move in the market to secure another keeper to challenge ruddy. now, 12 months on, some people seem flabbergasted by the prospect of a new keeper coming in!
strange. why the change of attitude? is it simply cos of ruddy's form? our two young keepers are some way from being our first choice so its not going to harm their development - if anything it'll help it by giving them both the opportunity to play games in a competitive league. i really cannot see any negatives to this deal at all, other than it taking up a small part of our transfer budget but as i've mentioned on here before, i doubt it will make any difference to us trying to sign a striker or any other player hughton desires.

I whole heartidly agree with this. I am sure he hasnt cost us much and isnt on a massive wage but it sound slike this deal has dragged out and I would be quite happy to never see this guy on the pitch ahead of Steer and Rudd. I know there are talks of loans for Steer and Rudd but I dont always think this is necessary expecially with the lengths of careers for goalkeepers nowadays.
I disagree with this. Norwich have a history of producing great goalkeepers - Rudd and Steer being the latest.
Bringing in Bunn as Ruddy's number two will unsettle our two young 'keepers. Make them feel undervalued, not to be trusted.

My guess is that BOTH Rudd and Steer will go out on loan - one on a season long loan and one on a 3 month deal with instant recall. Will help offset the wages that Bunn is on and will aid their development (we hope).

Supers, 12 months ago people wanted an experienced keeper because we weren't sure if any of ours would be able to cut it at this level. If it had turned out that Ruddy wasn't up to it we would have been relying on Rudd and Steer so people wanted a decent back up just in case.
One year on and Ruddy has become an England international, while Rudd is firmly in the U21 set up and Steer isn't far behind and when the pair of them were called upon last season in both league and cup, they both showed they were more than capable. This in turn makes people more confident about our goal keeping options and why they seem a bit perplexed at the signing of a 27 year old to be second choice when we should really be trusting and developing our own young keepers in the same role.

I have mentioned this before including on a current thread. I have never been able to understand why 27 year old Bunn wanted a move because he was fed up with being understudy to 40 year old Robinson so decided to move to be understudy to 25 year old Ruddy. Are you sure that he is going to be that or is he a replacement? If we need to raise money to buy a striker then surely Ruddy is our most saleable player. Just a thought!!
The point is that Bunn has not come to be "an understudy" to JR, but to be in direct competition with him. Rudd in contrast has never been more than an understudy. IMO this is an excellent signing. If Dave Watson had thought Rudd was ready to be our No.2, Bunn would not have been brought in.
We probably did need an experienced back up for Ruddy but how often does a team change its goalkeeper over the course of a season (unless Hughton plans on rotating this position too?). Rudd is probably adequate enough to cover the odd suspension/injury to Ruddy.

I'm in favour of this because it gives us an opportunity to spend 2 years properly developing Rudd and Francomb with Loans. They have both proven themselves to be good in bit-part friendly/cup games but What they need is a 12 month loan to teach them all about playing week in week out. It may seem a "waste" but I have the same attitude towards it as Hart for England. Both Hart and Ruddy are undisputed number ones for Country and club repectively, but you can't just bank on them always being about. You remove risk by providing backup.

Understand your attempt to make a difference between ' understudy ' and ' competition ' but in practical terms unless Ruddy gets injured or suffers a serious loss of form Bunn will not get in the team. If he stays at Blackburn the chances are that Bunn would have been first choice next season, at the latest, with a club that have a realistic chance of getting back into the Premiership. Instead of that he moves to be understudy or competition to a 25 year old current England player. Sorry but it just doesn't strike me as a good career move unless .......!

I think the key is we want Rudd and Steer to become great first team keepers, not great understudies. If they stay here and get no experience they will continue to be excellent understudies but I want them as future possible starters for Norwich or as lucrative moneyspinners depending on where Norwich are at the end of it.
