A journalist just asked Modric about his ex-club *Arsenal*. Yes, Arsenal. Luka's response: "It's Tottenham, not Arsenal."

I think this just proves that those in charge at 'three-point-lane' are clueless at finance. They turn down £40m only to negotiate £27m. I think Levy has shown why they are the perrenial small club underachievers in London.<ok>

Nevertheless, I wish we had him.

And strengthen your team, whilst making ours weaker?

Also it's closer to £30m than £27m. At our 'small' club £3m is a lot <laugh>

I know you have expressed your concerns re: The Partnership on the Spurs board Morpheus but does it not worry you Levy clearly doesn't see Real Madrid as rivals? I think it's slightly disappointing that Levy does not see beyond Chelsea and Arsenal. Quite disappointing you've become partners with a team that you could have been competing against but for a penalty shoot out that went against you

What you say is true - but fact of the matter is that that penalty shoot out cost us a whole heap of money and 'status' as well (CL team sounds a hell of a lot better than EL team to an interested player).

I think Levy has to be realistic - Chelsea and City have pulled away from us, United have been away from us for years, Arsenal have fallen back a lot (probably our closet rival in terms of competitiveness now). Then you've got Newcastle as well - add to that Everton and Liverpool and top 4 is ridiculously difficult now.

Levy wants us competing for CL - I hope he doesn't expect us to get back there this season with a new manager and the increase in competition.

Had we qualified for the CL - we probably wouldn't even have had this discussion as I think Modric would've stayed.

Fair enough Morpheus. Appreciate your views on the situation. I don't think it will have too much of an impact to be honest

I don't think Modric would have stayed regardless, Morpheus. You were never going to keep hold of him in the long term
