I was watching Sky this morning and it was pointed out by Chris Kamara that Michu and Danny Graham have a habit of swapping positions during a game. Apparently they do it to cause confusion in the defence as they are unsure who the front player is and the one who is more likely to make a run. I'm used to wingers swapping but I've not seen this before and haven't particularly spotted it during the games though I have noticed both players are making runs to free up space for the other. Yet more innovation from Laudrup?
I think there is a whole different level of sophistication about our play this season that will just get sharper as we go. And we can still play keep ball pretty good. There was a two minute plus period of possession in the second half yesterday where we strung 40 plus passes together causing whiplash amongst most of the Hammers' midfield. The tv commentators loved it.
We appear to be taking things to a different level, and it's down to laudrup and the way wants us to play, I haven't noticed what was said but I have the whole game on sky+ so will sit down probably tomorrow and watch it.
Me too valley. Kammy made the comment on Goals on Sunday earlier. Maybe I haven't got the eye for these things that others have but when certain snippets were replayed you could clearly see that sometimes Michu was deliberately ahead of Graham and vice versa.
Laudrup has immediately realised what Rodgers (and most of the cretins who slagged Graham) struggled with. Lone strikers need help. You can have the best forward in the world but if you leave him marooned on his own upfront he will struggle. Happily he appears to have solved this by inventing a system where we almost seem to have four strikers on occasion. Probably have to be tweaked against the stronger sides, but a few of the weaker ones will be on the receiving end of a hiding this season.
4 strikers! Wow. It's paid off so far LR, but as you say against quality opposition we may have to change the setup.
each game warrants different methods of play and that is what makes good managers from the bog standard ones, Brendan used Danny all wrong and he was not effective up front on his own for most of last season, I mentioned it too many times and have been proved right.. ML is playing Danny to his strengths that i made him MOM yesterday...far far better football than all the passing in our own half last season and going nowhere because poor Danny was with the rest in our own half playing boring worthless and unproductive football......
Must admit Superswan that you were right about the use of graham, it certainly seems to be borne out now. What I didn't agree with is your vitriol of him not being good enough and should go back to league 1, but we've only played 2 games so we shall see if it lasts the season
Fair play. That's some pretty spectacular rewriting of history to boost your own "reputation" there. I seem to recall that the overwhelming majority of your contributions on the subject of Graham were, as VS rightly points out, to slag him off.
got to laugh at that 'i was right' tone to that guff. you stated many times graham was championship standard and said he should have gone this summer.... you were on a crusade to tell everyone that. so now you've changed spectacularly from 'he's not good enough' to 'he was used wrongly'. i see lone rangel has picked up on this
So would I top ten goal scorer and as a loan striker, but he appears to be enjoying himself playing with Michu up front, sounds a bit sordid but there you go
well was i right or was i right. the way he played under Brendan was all wrong and he was playing terrible running around like a headless chicken in our own half most of the time and when he did go forward he was infective and fluffed or missed the target most of the time...I even said he is a good player badly advised and should be playing championship football where he excelled. Under ML he has got Danny back into position that suits his playing strengths and i know its only two games plus what i saw in America but you cant fail to see the difference that i was banging on about last season. Its no good buying a player like Brendan did and not playing him what he was bought for. Danny was more of a midfielder than the proper midfielders last season and nobody on here can deny i kept on saying that.....
Jesus, do you even know what point it is that you're trying to make? FACT - You made no mention of Graham being used incorrectly, choosing instead to slag him off relentlessly. Something you've done to every striker we've had since your beloved Trundle. FACT - In an attempt to make it look like you've got even the slightest idea what you're talking about, you're now lying through your teeth about FACT #1, something which is obvious to everyone except you it would seem.
lone you just cant admit that i was right about Danny can you you are quick enough to condemn what i was saying at the time but your not man enough to say i was even in the right ball park when it comes to Danny last season....there is no pleasing people like you who cant admit i was right so just leave it there will you. many on here know what i was on about it seems you don't....never mind it takes all sorts i suppose and if it makes you feel any better then i will please you and say you are right.. feel better now..
To anyone who has a spare hour or two I urge you to date back to a few of dai's posts last season and prove US all right and HIM wrong
I'd be more tempted to keep your eye on that Swamp ... thing is for me that there will be a lot of pressure coming Taylor & Rangel's way , that we've lucked out on so far & even Leon isn't going to be there most times , hope I'm wrong .
