no width today. jacko was inside. SCP looked like he wanted to persist with a diamond. it justt left us flat and no real attacking threat.

no subs used either. danny green would have loved a free kick in those conditions

Brief summary:
Happy with a draw and happy my prediction was right. Happy all round. Conditions played a huge part in the result. The second half was pretty dire, but definitely not due to the players. Leon Cort had a really bad game, though, like I said, I don't think he can really be blamed for this. Every single player had run them-self into the ground by the end of the game, so was surprised Chris Powell didn't make a change.
 
Decent game fair result gamer was quality Hull looked good apart from Mcshane who looked awful when he came on for Bruce.Apparently yans disallowed goal was onside thems the breaks.disapointing crowd again 16,000
 
Not really all that chuffed to be honest. Pleased with the point. As against Leicester we really should have lost. They missed three absolute sitters without looking a particularly good side.

Bizarre day with the weather and traffic problems keeping the crowd down (at least I hope it was the closure of the A2 that caused it). But the downsides for me were a pretty inept second half performance and the complete absence of a plan B. The conditions were farcical but they were the same for both teams and we were second best. Why oh why will SCP not make changes when it is blindingly obvious that he should. Jackson, much as I love him, was not at the races today. I don't know if he is struggling for fitness or whether the step up in class has exposed his lack of mobility but he was utterly anonymous and should have been off at half time. Pritchard too was poor second half and what Green and cook need to do to get half an hour is completely beyond me. We are not going to get far in this league just lumping it to Yann. We need width. We played quite well in the first half. Stephens and Hollands were much better than midweek but just no width other than occasionally from Wiggins. Hamer again was exceptional and saved us three or four times and I can't agree that Cort was poor. A couple of dodgy moments but not poor overall. Frustrating day.

We had to resort to that today due to the weather conditions. We were not doing that before the rain started. It would've been impossible to get the ball down and play it around and work our way forward in the swimming pool that was the pitch. Lumping it to Yann, in the circumstances, was the right thing to do.
 
We've been lumping it to Yann (and occasionally) BWp for about 90 per cent of the two home games so far. Only exception was a 10 minute spell today when Wiggins tried to get forward and Stephens tried his Gerrard impression Hull managed to play it to feet in the rain second half and looked dangerous.
 
Just got back, I thought the goal looked offside, but I'm in North so can't really tell inline can you? Was a boring game really that wasn't helped by the weather. The 2nd half was just an incredible display of weather, fork lightening and thunder was incredible and the match was crazy.

BBC website fails to mention the offside but never know it might have been onside. Hamer heroics today, and anyone who says he distributed it poorly need to think about conditions and the fact that there is no way you can quickly counter in those conditions.

Cort got lucky in the 2nd half when he slipped and almost gifted them a goal. Morrision was good too winning headers and was calm. Wiggins and Solly had to defend more then attack but they did their job well.

Pritchard, after Leicester I said i like him but not sure if he can play as a RM and I still keep that idea, just lacks the pace. Stephens was Stephens, would tough tackle and do a killer ball one time next he would do a poor pass and pull out of a challenge, but I think he did more good then bad today. Hollands MoTM for me, was a rock in midfield would win the ball, would play the ball well and even in the rain drench second half seemed clam and composed. Jacko was shocking in my opinion, was going inside far too much that prevented Wiggins from going up and attacking as much as he should. I like Jacko as he normally drops back to LB but today instead of playing LM he was CM all game, Stephens and Hollands controlled the centre in my opinion, Jacko didn't need to be there.

Kermit and BWP worked hard just didn't have the luck, would work hard to win the ball both of them and linked up with midfield okay but just didn't fall to them. Not a bad day at the office but not a very productive one, Kermit however in defence at corners was superb in clearing the corners, not what we want him for but he did well.

Referee I thought was decent apart from the fact he wouldn't wait for advantage would just blow up straight away. Also I thought he was a bit on the big side considering he should keep up with play but he seemed to do it, must have been muscles or big bones. Brave man not to call it off in the second half when I think many of us were considering it, if not stopping play for 10 minutes. But all in all not too disappointed with this referee.

How they missed two sitters in the last 10 minutes of the second half I'll never know, one was hit just inches inches wide and the other was after Hamer spilled the wet ball but some how they missed and was given as a corner so I can only assume that Hamer got a hand to it. Also their call for a penalty that the BBC mentions was pathetic as the ball was clearly played by Cort great tackle. And Powell needs to know he has subs and subs he can use before 80 minutes that's all I say.

All in all, disappointing we couldn't beat a Hull side that looked far from impressive, but if someone had offered me 5 points after our first three games seeing who our opponents were I would have bitten their hand off. All in all can't be too down about it.
 
We did well because Hull aren't going to be pushovers.

But the way they were set up they were there for the taking.

Their wing-backs were given a day off because we had 4 central midfielders - should have given Green 20 minutes in those conditions; cross-field balls to him with him round the back running at McShane would have been deadly.

Whether you think this was a decent result depends largely on your aim for the season - if it's consolidation then yeah it was a decent point, but for me, who wants a top 6 finish, that's practically 2 points dropped.

Agree. I think Hull were there for the taking but we nearly lost. I like all our midfield players individually but We can't play four central midfielders in the same team with a predominantly long ball game.

It's a game of opinions. You are as entitled to yours as I am to mine. If we agreed all te time we would have nothing to talk about.
 
Bump down to earth after Tuesday.

Obviously the weather played a part, but our performance today was pedestrian at best. The link up play between the midfield and the strikers was non-existent (the same problem we've always had with Stephens and Hollands sitting deep) and as a result we went long too often. Pritchard and Jackson struggled to make any impact, and lack of pace was a real issue. Defensively we were fine, even though Cort looked clumsy at times, and if Hamer did indeed stop that follow-up shot that we all thought was a certain goal then it's one of the best double saves I've seen for a while.

Hull weren't a patch on Leicester, but Aluko and Simpson were threatening, and they should probably have scored. Defensively they nullified us, as expected, and that combined with their lack of goals means they'll be very dull to watch this season. Maybe that's why they didn't bring that many fans.

I have no idea why Powell didn't make any changes, Jordan Cook for one deserves a chance to play, possibly as a replacement for Jacko.

All in all, though, we have to be content with 5 points at this stage. Games like this are inevitable every now and then, between two sides who most probably will be in mid-table by the end of the season.

Agree with every word of this. Just saw the double save on the telly. Hamer did indeed get a hand to the second shot too.

I like Cook, thought he looked really dangerous against Orient. I just thought that maybe he didn't get on because A. Powell is clueless over subs and B. Cook relies on clever touches and good ground control and play, I don't think the conditions would have suited him at all, they are the only two reasons I believe Cook didn't come on.
 
yep, cook and green on for the last 20 would have pushed hull back, and if it didnt at least it would have given us fresh legs. jacko in the middle today didnt look as good.

the diamond didnt work at all in the first half.

We got caught up in the horrific and tragic accident on the A406. Just managed to creep off and make our way through Redbridge up to the A13. The sight of the air-ambulance landing on the road and the medics doing their work has left a sour feeling.

I'm not surprised the Orient game was called off.
