If we want to talk about rivals, Fenerbahce are in the Champion's League play-off round. This is the Fenerbahce that was kicked out of this season's competition for match fixing, and their place was going to be given to Besiktas (despite their players and club officials also being implicated in the same scandal) Apparently it's more important to UEFA to please Turkey's co-efficient of two teams, regardless of their obvious and exposed corruption, rather than use a little common sense and give Spurs dispensation to appear in the play-off round this season. It's not like there hasn't been the chance for five English clubs to appear in the CL before, as the same was the case in 2005-6.
See Bendtner refused to join you guys because you didn't fulfill one of his 3 conditions. CL football. That is a low blow.
We have a legitimate grievance with the spineless idiots of UEFA, and by extension with Fenerbahce. You merely have a long-term rivalry with reality.
Fourth place granted a place in the CL play-off round at the start of the season, yet by the end of the season they moved the goalposts. One of UEFA's arguments was that having five teams from one league would somehow destabilize the competition, yet there were five PL teams in the draw for the 2005-6 competition (Chelsea and Arsenal in the group stage, Man Utd, Everton and Liverpool in the qualifying round) and they didn't demote Everton to the UEFA Cup, so there is precedent to say that they have allowed five English teams in once, so why not again? Common sense would dictate that the winner should be the equivalent of, for lack of a better phrase, a wildcard entrant. It has nothing to do with co-efficients, so there is no reason to bring that up as an argument for demoting one team out of the competition they qualified for (especially as, as pointed out above, they didn't the last time five English clubs were in the draw) Taking a leaf out of FIFA's book, when the winners of the previous World Cup were given automatic entry to the next tournament, they didn't take away one entry place from that continent's quota, because they had it factored into the draw. How did UEFA not consider doing this - other than the implication that UEFA assume that the same small group of teams from each country will finish in the available CL places, so the champions of the previous season's competition will always be one of this select group of one, two, three or four? So much for representing the pinnacle of European football, they're just representing the interests of a small group of clubs (which indicates the spectre of the G14 clubs lingers on)
Well nice that Jayram and HotHead have become more civil... but those two accounted for 99% of the personal insults in the Arsenal board while they were around... I really doubt there's much difference of opinion on issues there if those two aren't throwing personal insults left and right. edit: oh, and I agree I wouldn't give high marks to piskie and cym on "moderating" either, but can't say the place hasn't become more civil since some of those names have moved on. Bergkamp the dutch master was ok though.
Adam Johnson to Sunderland, didn't see that coming, and so quickly completed! Good signing, MON does like his wingers. His attitude is the only iffy bit, got ahead of himself a touch at City.
There are plenty of lies here on this thread, let me set the record straight: As you may or may not know there are/were lots of problems with the Arsenal board - usually problems with the mods and posters who "disagreed" with their opinions. Some of these posters include Jayram, Hothead, Bergkamp a Dutch Master, Robin Van Bergkamp, Ammaar and a few others. some were accused of not being Arsenal fans, some were hounded with every post they made, unless you agreed with the views of the mods your posts were edited and deleted and users actually banned from the forum. This behaviour is was unacceptable, everyone has a right to an opinion, as long as it isn't offensive I don't see what the problem is. Some of the banned users started another Arsenal forum, others followed. It would seem as though those users not already banned from Not606 were subsequently banned - I can only assume for being on a rival board and actually having the balls to stand up to the mods on the Not606 Arsenal board. They had stopped posting on the Not606 Arsenal board anyway (or at the very least cut right down on contributing) so that can only be the reason for them being banned. As correctly mentioned Piskie joined the site using a fake name and profile and proceeded to goad users as he does here - knowing full well they will retaliate. But unlike here he can't delete posts or edit them as he does regularly. Also as correctly mentioned the so-called trouble makers from this site have in depth discussion and debate on ALL topics on the new site. What some people (Gent) don't seem to understand is, it takes 2 to tango. If an argument ensues there MUST be 2 sides. If someone is shouted at or insulted they will shout and insult back, why should they sit back and take abuse and not give it back?? Everyone is welcome to their opinions, what you cannot and should not be doing on a forum is preventing debate, debate is EXACTLY what a forum is here for. Users have not been banned for being on JA606 AND Not606 so we can only assume that the Arsenal mods here feel/felt threatened by the new Arsenal site. The comment that some of those users left of their own free will is a quarter truth, some did and were consequently banned from here, some were banned so created the new place. And of course the Not606 Arsenal board would be more civil if EVERYONE has the same opinion !!! There are still those who are being hounded out for daring to have a different opinion still though .. I have eyes.
FFS I wish you lot would just get a grip and leave, our board is far better since you lot left, people can actually have a laugh and a debate without jayram jumping down your throat or hot head asking you to meet up for a fight (yes this is actually true, he regularly asked people who did not agree with him to meet up for a fight). Jayram always had his own agenda, he always wanted to be a mod, and I presume he is now on this new site. Just go to your new site and live happy ever after, as you're not missed here. PS - sorry to the spurs fans for having to put up with this **** on your board.
