Anyone surprised by the amount of spending we've done in the off-season? Obviously a number of players were signed on a free and no doubt have the wages to match but with our most recent two signings it seems we've pulled away from much of the Championship with what we've offered.

I know we shed a mighty amount of wages since last season and with a couple more players still to be let go it'll free up even more, but has this shown a new-found belief in the club and its management from Lansdown? Or did that never go away?

Regardless, we're pretty damn lucky compared to some.

i'm proud to say we have firstly a fan in our owner and a Bristol lad as well,we have a very wealthy owner who is proud of the club and Bristol.

He clearly wants Bristol City to move up to the prem and is backing Del with some fantastic signings.

I can honestly say we have the best squad now for well over 15 years.

I really am looking forward to the coming season with a big grin on my face.<somersault>

Suprised no because its all about how you spend the money and as you point out City have shed wages. Gone are Ball, Clarkson, Henry, Hunt, James, Jackson, JCR, McCallister, Muggridge, Riberio and there is still dead wood to go. Kilkenny and Stewart and Pitman/ Bolassie = a good player in wages and a saving as well as meeting FFP. Hopefully the days of silly marquee signings like James who cost the club heavily v Heaton or a Henderson are gone. it remains to be seen how good players are now but City really lost their way in seasons past. The club in reality is still utterly skint fans need to be realistic.
 
I think we'll get up to a million or so for pitman and 250K for bolaise so some of that we'll get back. I heard that most or all of the Baldock money was from money that West ham still owed us so maybe that hasn't counted towards expenditure?

depends how the deal was done?

But it would have been nice if the maynard money came to us in the Baldock deal.

Definitely heard there was money still owed to us from the Maynard deal. No idea how much or even if it's true but it would make sense...
 
With pitman and bolassie looking like they will be gone soon for reasonable fees joe Edwards going out on loan potentially Damian Stewart will pick up a loan deal too as did well at notts county and some of the other younger player like Reid may pick up loan deals, we should be saving a few bob on wages over the season particularly if we can keep away from bringing in x amount of loan players over the season unlike the last 2 or 3 years
 
The financial rules don't come in til next year I believe? So it's wages that have to be right this year as opposed to transfer fees because we won't be penalised on that?
 
The one thing I know for sure, having previously worked for him at Hargreaves Lansdown, is that Steve Lansdown is a an astute financial man. By profession he is a chartered accountant and as such has an intricate knowledge of business finance and most importantly, cash management. He will be fully aware exactly how to structure the club and player deals to stay within the FPP rules. What we don't know are the revenue projections on which his personnel investments are made as this is the key variable in the FPP calculation.

Losing in the cup would have been a blow as undoubtedly the cub would have budgeted to at least get to the second round. The attendence against Palace was also below what they will have likley budgeted for. It is therfore imperative that firstly, the club performs on the pitch. This will lead to better attendances and thus greater revenue. The real wild card here is the stadium. This will not happen at the earliest until the 2014 / 15 season and I'm sure Steve has got this built into his projections as it will lead to increased matchday and non-matchday revenues.

At the end of the day, yes, we are lucky to have him. He doesn't have the financial clout of the likes of Notts Forest, Leicester and Blackburn but what he does have in abundance is good financial sense and more importantly, a genuine love of both the club and the City of Bristol.

Let's hope he's smiling at the end of the season.

It won't be a problem next year when we are in the Prem Jambo... <whistle>

Some clubs are boosting their turnover with stadium sponsorship to allow them to continue spending - wonder what AG will be called next year..?
 
Sounds like some of the transfers have been done on the basis that other players would be leaving. Anderson coming in as a possible replacement for Albert who may now go now Wigan have sold Moses last night ish. New strikers joining with rumours that Pitman has played his last game.

Guess if these players dont go we have a great squad but board may feel like they have egg on their faces. Im sure between sell Pitman, Albert and Yannick they will hope to get between £4m-£5m for the 3 players which will cover our recent signings with money left over
 
Don't forget the rumours about Nyatanga and Stewart, andyyandyy. I'd like to keep the former and though I don't think we'd get much for the latter there'd be plenty freed up in wages.
