It seems to me that the ghost of Harry lingers around every decision our new manager AVB makes.

For every team selection,player acquisition,substitution and press conference and interview, most of us compare it to how Harry would have done it.

In this thread we can compare what AVB does to what Harry may have done, based on our knowledge of him.

The 2 obvious starting points are the summer transfer window and our first league game against Newcastle United.
 
Well Redknapp would've talked to the press about every transfer target as often as possible, for a start.
He'd almost certainly have started van der Vaart against the Geordies and not have been looking to move on Dawson or Huddlestone, but I'm not sure he'd have done that much different, otherwise.
Slightly different tactics for the game, with less closing down in the opponent's half, perhaps?
 
To be honest I couldn't give a rats hairy crack what Harry would've done and other than continuing the status quo I couldn't guess either.
Relatively happy with AVB so far. Harry who? :)

for me he is forgotten..as is well documented....however he is still being used as the barometer for measuring success for the new man..so i thought well lets see who has a case if so...so far i am enjoying the freshness the change has brought.....but i could not help but notice how everything always results in 'if it was Harry' especially when things seem to go wrong...i wish everyone would forget him..but i dont think that is the case for a fair few posters.
 
You can't blame fans for still being fond of arry just because some of you got tired of the guy, he was our most successful manager since the premier league started, thats no mean feat considering he achieved this by getting us into the top four and the champions league.

Also he was a players manager, fans loved the freedom he allowed the players so he won't be forgotten until a manager comes in and shows they can top simple arry.

But as much as I loved having arry, I dont think "what would arry have done" its more the great memories but if we go backwards then it will all be dragged again, its to be expected.
 
but going along with the thread.

arry would have played his 4-4-1-1 agaisnt newcastle, even with defoe up top, like we did away to man city last year and I expect we would have faired better as avb tried to press but we looked most dangerous on the counter.

if we try and press with two holding midfielders then its too negative, too risky., it means we have to score first really as if we go behind we look lacking in options.

Why are you so insistent the man has to be forgotten ?? Are you saying the two top 4 finishes in 3 full seasons has to be forgotten ?? Are you saying those glory glory nights in the CL should be forgotten ??

Of course Harry won't be forgotten and why on earth should he ??

I reckon I was Harry's biggest fan, yet I haven't offered any support for him on here in the weeks since he left, becuase I accept that sometimes in football, **** happens, so I realise we move on. But I am damned sure I am not going to forget what he achieved in his time with us and to where he took us.

In return, I don't want to see the pro-AVB people ramming the guy's supposed credentials down my throat when he clearly has a lot of work to do to win some of us over.

Or, what AVB does compared to twenty different ideas about what Harry might have done!, for someone who wants everyone to forget Redknapp as you mention earlier, you pick a strange subject for a thread. Do you not think we had a hard enough job working out what he was doing when he was here!

You are right to say that he should be forgotten is quite wrong of me.

Badly worded if anything by me, however for me the fact remains that ever AVB move is compared to Harry and I created this article not to have a pop but to be able to analyse how the 2 men are different in the way they operate and I feel that it makes for an interesting read to be able to pop back on here everytime AVB does something to compare because many think we should have kept Harry and fair enough to them.

I am not Harry bashing I am merely trying to use this article as a tool to reach a few conclusions on AVB and his ways and those that wish we had Harry can do the same just from a different perspective.

I knew what was going on in my own head...I just wanted those that still want Harry to come on this thread on a weekly basis and tell the rest that 'they told us so and why'

I think it makes for great debate.

And next time could you throw something a bit healthier at me,I'm on a diet <hug>
 
I didn't like the last 6months anymore than you or anyone else, but the culmination of that is no reason to discard the previous couple of years imo. I'm not one of those who's that arsed about what he would have done since, but no doubt you'll have some takers! <cheers>
 
Redknapp would have lost the first game.

The new signings would not have signed.

Ade would not have signed.

We would still have all of the dead wood on our books because Redknapp would have hung on to them.

Time to move on.
