Too soon for Dack?

I was reading the match reports and remembering the commentary from last night and I got thinking about young Dack. By all accounts he had a poor game last night and the change at half time with Charlie Allen coming on was key to our victory. Now I am not saying Dack shouldn't have a place in the first team squad but if appears to me that he is still a little short of being a first team regular. My opinion is that he should be given a starting place for home games and used as an impact sub for away games. Hopefully last nights game will have taught him alot, as he it's clearly a exciting talent.

I think use him as a sub home and away for a couple of months then give him the odd start at home,depending whom we'll playing. I think it's too much too soon for the lad at the moment,so let him get used to being around the squad.

I don't get how you can judge when you wasn't at the game.. Dack wasn't poor he just wasn't as good as everyone else, who had an outstanding game! Admittedly charlie allen coming on did change the game, but I just think its a bit stupid judging someones performance when you wasnt there..

I don't think it is being stupid. Unfortunately whether due to location in the uk, work commitments or maybe just the cost, not everyone can make a game. I for example was not there last night due to work commitments but even so I probably could not afford the additional cost even if I was not at work. I have already laid out about £400+ (season ticket, shirts, friendlies, Gills Player, match programmes, food, drink) this season on my club and it has only just got under way.

BSG, clearly states he has read match reports and listened to the commentary, that entitles him to an opinion as much has it does your own. To see the timing of the substitutions and even your comments in regards to not being as good as everyone else, means he was poor in comparison surely?

My opinion is its too soon for him. with the likes of Jackman sitting on the bench and Charile Allen who has started the season really well. When you say he wasnt poor just not as good as anyone else, then surely he shouldnt be starting and one of the others should be.

Kudos to Martin for having the cojones to make 5 changes to a team so early on in the season, just shows that he appreciates that we have strength in depth at this moment in time and that he is not afraid to mix things about a bit.

As for Dack, I agree with the above sentiment with the likes of Jackman sitting on the bench who certainly must take a place in the starting XI over Dack at the moment. I'm encouraged to see him in the first team squad and I'm sure he'll improve in confidence over the next few weeks if we are able to give him a few sub appearances every now and then.

Never seen Bradley Dack play, but I reckon we have our next "Matty Jarvis" right there.
Making his debut in the league at 16. Not many players do that. And although he seems to have had a quiet half on his debut, there have been plenty of encouraging comments about him from all quarters.

Good luck Brad. You will hopefully be playing a couple of divs higher in the next few seasons.

Oh, and please don't ask how I can "judge" having not seen him. I'm just giving an opinion (as brb rightly pointed out). I've never seen Lionel Messi play, but imho he's pretty decent

As brb pointed out on a previous thread, Bradley was incredibly unlucky not to have scored against Bradford. The composure he showed whilst lining up the attempt is evidence enough that he is ready to be on the field. The odd half here, impact sub role there should see him grow in confidence over the coming months. We may have an exciting prospect on our hands!

I was just saying not always the match reports get it right, therefore you shouldnt judge if you wasn't there.. And yeah if we must use the term 'poor in comparison' okay, however he had a good first half, he wasnt poor, just everyone else was significantly better!

I think he looks a top player and it is good to give him goes like this but he needs to come into the team slowly, if he did play not great against Wycombe we know it is not the end of the world as he will want to improve on it. I have a feeling that he will score very soon maybe in the next few games he plays in. It is important that we give him a good amount of game time but not too much, we don't want to pile too much pressure on him.

I think the idea of him coming on as an impact sub is good, remember back to Rooney with how we used him to start off, I personally think this is our best option as he is a player who has a great future and I believe will be very useful for us this season however I have to agree with others that Jackman should be in the team ahead of him.

It would be a pretty quiet board if you can't express an opinion having to a first hand experience of every thing you comment on! I clearly stated my sources so I feel I could make an opinion. However you are correct in stating that match reports are subjective but then again any opinion is, even your opinion.

Dack must stay in the squad unless his form dips alarmingly. Every player has good and bad games but he is a massive talent and we must keep him in the squad or we may lose him for a very small fee. What i have seen and heard from him , he can go a very long way. We must keep the young talented youth players in the frame for matches.

I was at the game on Tuesday and thought Dack did fine. He worked hard and played some nice passes but Wycombe were starting to win the midfield battle at the end of the first half and he was struggling to get in the game so Martin Allen made the correct choice and replaced him and added some more steel and energy in the shape of Charlie Allen who was excellent. Dack started ahead of Jackman and Charlie because of the tactics we had employed as he was being used as an attacking forward midfield player supporting Kedwell and Weston. It will have been a good experience for him to play against a strong team away from home and he has so much talent that I am very confident he will become a very very good player for the Gills.
