Now, before I get shot down, this is not a negative thread....nor am I upset or annoyed at the club or Hughes or the players that we have signed or about to sign.

I just wanted to put out a concern that not only hit home after the Swansea game, but also after watching Southampton do so well against Man City.

If we get Carvalho and Dawson we will have signed 9 new players this summer......all faily decent and an upgrade on what we currently had, bar Green arguably, but thats subjective and im willing to give him a chance.

What is important though is team unity....or "gelling" as its eloquently put......we didnt actually start to "gel" as a team till the latter half of the season where the squad really pulled together and put on decent performances against the top sides.

Now after we went down 2-0 on Saturday the squad litterally fell to pieces...some might argue that a lack of leadership or captaincy contributed to this, but we have people on the pitch who can still pick up players.....in my mind it was down to the fact that half the players had never played with each other before, bar playing in a fairly low level pre-season games.

Also after watching Southampton....a team that mainly consists of Championship players and even a 17 year old really have a go at Man City and defend for thier lives as a team, it got me thinking.

When Bosingwa gets on the team sheet and if Carvalho and Dawson join, 3/4 of our picked 1st team squad will be new and when things go wrong and we go down, will the team pull together?

What im trying to say is, im worried that in the time it takes a team to gel and become a team, we will have lost a load of points and find ourselves in a similar position to last season, where morale is low and we are chasing our tails?

I might be totally wrong and we come out and storm the league after a minor blip? I sure hope so!
 
Yes we have signed too many but unfortuantely most were needed. However like I said in a previous thread it will take them a good few games to gel which showed on Sat. I expect around 8-10 games so the first part of the season is going to be hard.
 
This is all part of Hughes's ambition, to be able to throw money at a problem rather than just developing a team and a system- all part of a 'revolution' which wont last beyond Christmas.
 
I was thinking the same thing. We seem to have had four different teams in 16 months. We were always likely to get some centre backs in - even before the debacle on saturday - so I don't think it necesarily panic buying off the back of that, but we're already into the season and trying to meld a new team. I'd have preferred some more stability from before August.
 
Certainly will take time to gel. However, last season we left it til 21st March (Liverpool at home) to start to turn the season round. I feel as confident as MH that it can be done before then this time around!!
 
Exactly.....and after getting so many players in and having no excuse, when things are going terribly at the beggining of the season, the pitch forks come out and it all goes breasts up.

9 new players over the summer is massive.
 
I repeat that things have never been better at QPR how people can't see that I don't know and how people can't understand where we are going I don't know.
As a club we are now growing very very quickly .... Too Many Signings? it's something we all need to get used to even a new team each year or even each transfer window...

The bar has been raised now pinch yourself please this is just about most of here not adapting to change ... I told you all its coming. QPR is in the bloody news everyday and will be so ... its called market establishment and it's coming quickly so wake up lads and enjoy it

Dont get me wrong, im happy with the way the club is going.....im happy with the signings and squad strengthening.......but to ignore the fact that too many signings, too quickly can be detrimental, would be niave and I hope MH can get them playing together quickly.

Good post. Some good points made. Think we needed to replace our championship standard players with experienced prem players. It will take time to gel and only god knows how committed they will be especially when things get tough on the pitch. Ultimately that MHs job and I hope to F**k he gets it right.

It certainly is a challenge but if Hughes is as good as he thinks he is it won't be a problem.

Will be a tough few games to get this team working together as we would all like to see. That said we have a few tough games regardless so what better time to get them pushing on.
Still bemused at continued criticism of players we are trying to bring into this club... the past is not so far behind where we were signing and talking about below average players, so this new revolution is more than well accepted in my eyes!
 
My concern is that if this is all part of the master plan and we are still building a decent squad is that, once more, survival is the only target for this season. By the 2013/14 season many of the players we have now would be on their way out in terms of either contract or natural wastage (i.e. old) and even more spending will be required.

If we were buying younger players it might make more sense but the overloading of over 30's (Zamora, JJ, Cisse, Hill, Derry, Park, Nelson etc) means Hughes will no doubt be asking TF for more cash to replace them. Man Citeh were in turbulent times during Sparky's reign but I wonder if he hadn't always been buying up every spare player he could get if the new owners wouldn't have given him more of a go. He could argue that the team he was building was a work in progress by the time he got the shove but as has been seen many times Chairmen and owners have little patience these days and if all that outlay doesn't pay off I can see TF looking elsewhere for a manager and we are back to square one yet again.

This isn't a pessimistic knee-jerk reaction to the humping by Swansea by the way. For a while I've been wondering if trying to accumulate a squad full of super stars can work on the pitch. Looks good on paper but can all these guys actually play as a team? Early days and it makes a change to be talking about the likes of Dawson and Mbia rather than trawling non-league for players.

Exactly....the first challenge was last Saturday, we massivley failed....so we go and get 2 more players.

The game at Norwich, who also lost 5-0 is going to be so interesting.

If we win 5-0 then I will delete this thread. :)
 
He isn't panic buying at all. Half the players have been on a free, each with vast experience to replace the dross that filled our squad.

The money is going on younger players such as diakite and Hoilett, to go along with adel and faurlin.

Now if we get an injury we have quality to come in and smooth things over, we just need to get everyone playing from the same play book.

Hi All,

I read the fourum all the time but never really come on to put my views across. So I'm trying not to be negative or wind anyone up but
Personally I sometimes find it quite funny how we as fans react to the way our club plays out its transfer dealings...when we don't buy we
slate the club...and now we are buying many of us are claiming its panic buying or we are buying too many...yet after the Swansea game
I'm guessing 100% of us wanted a couple of decent CB's. So lets be honest here Dawson is a decent CB granted has had a few injury problems but when he's played he has been very good.
Carvalho is pure class, knows how to defend and was always considered to have been the better of the Terry/Carvalho paternership...

My only real worry is the wage structure at the club, to get these players in we must be paying them in the region of £50-90k a week, so hopefully Tony F has deep pockets, we know the Mittal family do !

I guess I'm with QPR-Frankster here, I'm a little apprehensive as to how long it may take them to gel together...but I think with our next few games (Norwich, Walsall, Man C, Chelsea and Tottenham), will provide the perfect opportunity for them to be 'tested'...so I hope by the end of September we will be a more stable..would be better if the gel quickly in the next two game though !!!
