There is a good chance that the first choice QPR team will contain 7 new faces from last year.

They are making a huge gamble on pushing up the table, because the wages they must be incurring are eye-watering.

I can't see their owner pulling the plug on them though. Hughes doesn't seem to really be thinking ahead and I'm not sure he's going to be allowed to keep changing the squad every 12 months. There should be some good bargains for Championship clubs becoming available over the next season.

Tony Fernandes has big money behind him. He owns an F1 team, a huge airline, a car Company (bought just for the sake of having a name for his F1 team) as well as QPR.

Lucky them having an owner willing to spend

He seems genuine and very down to earth. However if they were to go down (albeit highly unlikely) that could change. From what I understand he was considering selling had they gone down last year.

Down to earth guy, admitted he's not good enough to start games for Arsenal yet.

QPR are showing ambition, because they want to stay up - their owners are to be commended for backing the club with serious cash

I've no idea if they will survive, I don't follow them enough, but at least they are having a go.

Now looking at the other end of the table, how committed are our owners? They've done brilliantly to get Ade back, well done ENIC on that<ok>

But we've already lost vital ground, having lost at toon, a probable rival, with a lop-sided team.

We still need more players in, and asap.

Nowt to be worried about yet. If we compare to last year we are a point down on the same fixtures and newcastle are 2 points up. Put that onto our final points hauls and we'd end up with 68 and newcastle 67. Same league positions.

    How dumb is Santos?
Being chased by the police, so were does he go?
Straight to his place of work. <doh>

    Well done, mate.
They'll never be able to track you down there, will they?

maybe he was late for work and he'd already been spanked once by Wenger for a similar offence. Jail might be the better choice

    http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11700/8009779/Saints-fail-to-secure-Ramirez

The agent of Gaston Ramirez claims transfer talks with Southampton have broken down and that it is unlikely his client will now be heading for England.

The Saints appeared to have pulled off quite a coup when they agreed a club record fee with Bologna for the highly-rated forward.

The Premier League new boys were prepared to part with £11.8million for the Uruguay international, who has been interesting some of Europe's top clubs.

It would, however, appear as though they have been unable to complete a notable capture, with financial troubles at Bologna posing a problem.

Ramirez's representative says the Saints have now turned their attention elsewhere after failing to reach an agreement.

Oscar Betancourt has also sought to distance the 21-year-old from reports suggesting Tottenham or Liverpool could step in.

    Negotiations

"The negotiations with Southampton have ended," he told calciomercatoweb.it.

"I have spoken today (Wednesday) with the English club's chairman and they are looking at another target.

"Bologna didn't want to close the deal without the bank guarantees.

"The player was very happy with the offer received, but now he will probably remain at Bologna.

"Tottenham is an option to be rejected at this time because they are a long way short of Bologna's demands.

"Liverpool? They have never presented a concrete offer."

who ever it was who said that this ramirez to saints story was initiated to get clubs like spurs and livepool to stump up the cash, fair play to you. Looks like you were right!

    let's see what happens now.

bet the saints fans who WUMMED on here will be v quiet...

I'm not too worried, just sad that probably we'll miss out on CL again, and that our way of doing transfers will again play a key role in that.

I would rather win something like the EL than just participate in the CL. The CL was great the year we were in it but realistically we have no chance of winning it.
It does have the financial and prestigious benefit that would allow us to sign players though, but we didn't make use of that the 1 season we were in it so who says we would next time?

My feelings about the EL are, alas, what they were. There's so many damn teams and the chances of winning are so tiny it doesn't make sense to allow it to be a distraction. We missed third and made fourth by one and two points last year. Even a small distraction could be critical.

Fair comments Spurm, I feel the same about winning trophies, hence my criticism of ENIC's poor record in that respect. I'd gladly win the Europa and finish 5th this season than 4th and no trophy.

However as RWB implies, it's hard to plan these things. I want us to go for trophies though, in a way that at times we haven't in recent years. Though I accept there mitigating circumstances, usually.
