this has been rumbling on some time. i heard back in july that we'd been in contact with celtic, interestingly around the same time vaughan was linked going the other way, but i didn't want to believe it cos i'm not sure he's what we need. i mentioned the other day that he reminds me of billy sharp. good finisher but i really don't think his movement is going to be good enough for the premier league. i don't think he's any better than vaughan, though i will admit he hasn't spent most of his career lying on the treatment table.

Hooper certainly looks a player, and Celtic aren't going to need the firepower to win this year as its effectively a walkover for them so maybe... I think hooper and holty would be pretty damn sweet.

On the Skysports website, under the "Your Rumours" section according to some guy named pedro cfc he has heard from a reliable source Gary Hooper is on his way to Norwich in an £8m deal. Do you think City would really pay out that much on a striker? If so do you think any players could be on their way out, if so who?

It is not impossible we would spend 8 mil on a striker, but imo Hooper is no where near worth that. Forwards do cost more so maybe 5 and it is possible. Personally think he is decent but not that good, hard to compare SPL with EPL.

8m isn't probably in the realms of our transfer budget. I think the idea of Holt and Hooper up front is pretty exciting, he's the kind of player I'd like to see here but then you get the people that say "we must go to europe to get a good deal" "lets find our own Cisse"

Thats fine, but I can't make a judgement on these players because I don't trawl football manager looking at stats. The other thing we lack, unfortunately, is a european scouting presence, we could be buying a complete carthorse.

we do have a european scouting network - it is by no means extensive but there is one <ok>

hooper is not worth anywhere near £8m and i wouldn't be keen on us spending anywhere close to that kind of money on him.

I know I'm going to get some stick for this, but why is everyone so excited about him? He's another player who didn't quite make it in England, went up to Scotland and scored a hat full, like most do, and all of a sudden everyone thinks he's great. I'm aware he's only 24 years old and still improving but it does strike me as a slightly skewed view.

In the Celtic side alone there is Georgios Samaras, Anthony Stokes, Kris Commons, Joe Ledley, Daryl Murphy, Kelvin Wilson, even Fraser Forster, who have had average at best careers in English football, gone up to Scotland and looked like world beaters, well maybe not Samaras, but you get the idea. I'm sure given the right coaching he could develop into a brilliant player, but I don't see him as the answer.

After seeing Hooper play tonight, I wouldn't be keen on us spending a tenth of £8m on him!

Hooper I feel is one of those players who would (and was) very good in the Championship but would look very average in the prem, money can be spent better elsewhere, certainly for 8 million.

i personally think samaras is a better player than hooper - much better in truth! hooper is a good finisher but that's about it really. to be fair, samaras isn't really an out and out striker so its an unfair comparison.

I don't know how much truth there is in the rumour but I think if Celtic qualify for the CL there's no way Hooper will leave as he wants a crack at that. Celtic are currently winning 1-0 in Sweden so it's looking good for us.

Mind you, money talks so you can never say never.

How much did we spend on Ashton , 4mil? Not inconceivable we could spend 6-8 on a striker, probably the same in today's market
The question is can he play the lone striker role

After Saturday, I welcome any new signing! So long as they improve the squad (i.e.. better than one of Barnett, Korey Smith/Crofts, C.Martin) compared to last season, it's great business in my view.

Barnett aside, we now have 3 good CBs (Bassong, Turner and Bennett), and 3 backup (Martin, Ward, Ayala - Loaned out with recall presumably)

God I hope we are not going to get Hooper. The one player recently to come from Scotland who is genuine Premier League talent is Jelavic. He can do most things and you can see is a top forward no matter what league he plays in, good movement, good technique, great finisher but can also contribute in build up play. Would Hooper really have the same success for a team fighting for relegation than he has at the team who walk the league? Think how many chances he will probably get in a game for Celtic compared to what he will get here?

Hooper is slow and the SPL, with the exception of Celtic, is effectively league one standard. Vaughan is stronger, faster and technically better.

With his goals return, do you not think England would have called him up if they thought he was good enough? We need pace, not more slow players.
