It was your fans talking him up. As I said in one of the threads, he's a good player, not a great player so I'm not going to pretend I thought he was.

Gervinho's great on the ball and fast but can't pass or score to save his life rendering him fairly useless.

How on earth did he get 15 goals and 10 assists in his last season for Lille, then? Granted it's pre-season, but his final pass has started to get better in an Arsenal and even against Sunderland he did create a few decent chances.

Because it's a crap league? I really don't know to be honest because I never saw him play in France. All last season, however, that was his problem missing sitter after sitter.

I watched the first half of your game against Sunderland but whilst he looked lively again his only real contribution of note was a scuffed cutback to Cazorla.

Stats aren't the be all and end all but he had 4 shots, none on target and had the second lowest pass completion in your side(after Arshavin). When he starts hitting the back of the net and sending in dangerous crosses I'll be worried because nearly everything else is there.

Gervinho is improving. He is not the first player to have a dodgy first season in the prem and he will not be the last. He has shown for Lille that he does have the end product. Last season, he was just rushing things and he needs to be more calm when making that final decision. If he does, then he can be one hell of player, because he just beats people for fun.

it goes back to the point i was making to Gent, SJW. some players just don't make it in the prem, and Gervinho is one of those that hasn't, just yet.

You'd surely agree with me that he wasn't your best player in the first half of last season though? If only because Van Persie scored about 17/18 goals in the first half of the season. Gent unwittingly proved my point about Gooners underrating RVP now he's gone.

Yes, I would. RVP was clearly our best player in that period.

Yep, Fellaini has been unbelievably good in this game.

  12. Come on, you blues!

Would love to see Everton finishing above 'Pool, again. Two seasons in their shadow ought to drive some kind of message home, one would have thought.

Everton win! Jagielka and Fellaini immense (and Fellaini has a carbon copy of my high school hairstyle...a little more lopsided, maybe...)

Everton 1-0 Man Utd FT. Fergie out!
The Arsenal board's going to go into meltdown, now that van Pursey's lost a game.

  15. What's the betting that we beat Everton this season, but give our usual 6 points to United?

We've got to break that hoodoo.

Like I've said before, you are shown to have a completely average midfield. <ok> You'll be scrambling to sign any CM you can find in the January transfer window, and you might be in trouble if Scholes picks up an injury.

Everton can grind results against big teams once in a while, but only a weak midfield could have afforded them complete domination for more than 60 minutes. Rooney had to track back so far to even see the ball.

  17. SAF made the mistake of starting Rooney and not RVP. It was weakness on his part.

RvP got his first goal of the season in very late September as far as I remember, and only started warming up after that.

I should have said "one of the best" though, as I usually do. Careless omission on my part.

You say stats aren't the end all be all, but that is how you are rating Gervinho no? He hasn't got as many assists and goals. But he has initiated plays that have resulted in goals more than any other player in the first half of the season I would guess.

If a player can initiate an action out of completely dead play, like Gervinho is able to do so often, it really doesn't matter if a goal results from someone else's assist. He deserves a lot of the credit. Hleb was a similar player, and our fans started slating him as "useless" for the very same reasons when he left for Barcelona. But it couldn't be denied that he was behind a large percentage of chances created during his time, whether he got the final assist or not.

I don't know about that. The forwards weren't being serviced enough by the midfield. RvP isn't as versatile as Rooney, so he wouldn't be able to track back to get the ball as much.

  20. Yet he carried your entire team, last season!
