We won't get promoted with his brand of football, if the **** on a stick football served up on Friday night is his footballing "ethos" then he can ****ing keep it !! I'm not going through another season of watching our 2 centre backs hoofing 60 yard diagonal passes straight to the opposition midfield, why bother using wing backs if they never receive the ball. I lost count of how many times McNaughton and Taylor were in space but the ball was just lumped 60 yards to Bellamy and Helguson , both of them were always outnumbered and out-muscled. Seeing Bellamy playing so deep was just gutting to watch!. Sorry but 4-1-4-1 (4-5-1) or whatever the f**k this **** formation is really needs addressing. Why not just be done with it and play Whittingham as a CB next to Hudson and Turner, that's where he spent most of the game anyway. We are basically playing a narrow 5-4-1 formation, nothing being offered out wide and golden boy Don Cowie getting a spot over Craig Conway who has had a great pre-season. Malky needs to take a long hard ****ing look at what's going on, get his coaches to teach Hudson and Turner how to pass a football instead of hoofing it, and for f**k sake sort out the damn movement of the team, there is more movement in a house brick. I'm not going to hold my breath though.
A very well put together rant Neokutai. Have to agree over the Cowie issue, IMO Cowie is an outstanding central midfielder with a stamina level of a thorough breed horse but a winger / wide right midfielder never. Conway should have started but as said Malky favoured Cowie, the problem Malky will have is having to many central midfielders of the same quality. Thought Gunnarson looked a little lost as Mutch seemed to be taking up his positions. May have to put up with Turner and Hudson lumping it forward as a lot of teams will get 2 banks of 4 over the halfway at the CCS this season to stop the flow of our quality players. The positive from friday night was we kept going we still had that desire to win in the 90th minute, how many times previously under different managers would we have lost that game ??
i think hudson had a good game, decent passer, for me the problem was the full backs hoofing it forwards.... cowie is a steady eddie who will give you 6-7 / 10 every week but rarely more... the centre midfield was a bit flat with helguson up front on his own, would like to see us play a more attacking 4-4-2 with mason up front with helguson... all in all an average performance which we rescued at the death but room for improvement for sure...
i`d rather wait and see how it all turns out........the first game of the season is always an odd one
Letâs put it this way I have always made a joke with my mate about Mark Kennedy playing left back and playing the same chipped diagonal ball from the left back slot. This became such a common joke between me and my mate that we often referred to his boot as a Sand Wedge or a 9 iron as he lined up the obvious pass. There is no doubt in my mind the poor f@cker lost seed boots and turner has found them!! The 2 main issues I have with that 1. They never worked that well for Kennedy 2. He was better at it than Turner.
The way we play will need to change to accomodate Kimbo. He will be wasted and not hang around if we play hoof ball. The usual problem was lack of movement and pace in the middle of the park and upfront. He should change that.
My coach in uni always said ...... id rather you pass a ball 4 ft to a players feet that a 30 mtrs hoof up in the air .....................
You sure it wasn't a strange way of telling you that he didn't want you to have the ball? "Quick John, give it to Dave next to you!"
I don`t know who decided to play that way but if we are going to pass the ball around midfield for half the game at a slow pace that is going to get pretty boring. Why not play Bellamy in the centre he is as good a striker as you will get. Whitts scored 20 goals on the wing now he is moving ever backward when he is not even a defender. This cannot be the best formation or tactics and it seems for once all fans agree so what is Malkay playing at? This moaning about using two banks of four against us dont wash...other teams will face Huddersfield and win comfortably. We keep giving teams time to settle then the longer it stays 0-0 the more confident they become. Why did the slovak not play? 3-2-5 is my idea of an attacking formation. I can`t handle much more of this slow passing in midfield and its only been one game. john
Not good Friday but it was only game 1 so lets be a bit patient. In reality Whits was never a winger (my grannie is faster and she's been dead 50 years). However, he needs to play further forward to be the goal threat we all know he is. We certainly need to move the ball more quickly through midfield or get it outwide earlier for Bellers or Kimbo when he arrives. In fact for Velikonja to be effective we will need the ball on the ground and passed around quickly as he will not win the air ball scraps that Helguson got on Friday. HH plus Velikonja or Mason will provide a much greater threat but that will leave us lighter in the middle. Anyway 4 or 6 points from the next 2 games will put us all in a better frame of mind.
i agree BFB i think whitts plays much better in a midfield with lots of players around him, downside is that the attacker is isolated...
