Do Penarol actually own 30% of him or is it a sell-on clause like lot of young players have?

30% stake. As the article indicates, because of "training cost". It's like a development compensation I guess.

I think the issue has been, Saints offered 15m euro for the whole transaction including Penarol.

Seems to have been a misunderstanding, and it should be 15m to Bologna, and an additional payment to Penarol.

If it's legal for Italian teams to co-own, could an Italian team in theory buy 70% of him from Bologna without paying Penarol a penny? Sounds like a legal ****storm waiting to happen.

Well I guess so, if it is a 30% ownership. As it seems to be. Di Marzio says 70% of his "card" which I presume is his registration card.

So we have to pay both to get the deal done.

"Bologna put a stop to Gaston Ramirez’s move to Southampton, but Italian media report they’re starting negotiations from scratch.

There was chaos on Friday when the Uruguayan announced there were “only details” before finalising the transfer, but Bologna President Albano Guaraldimade it clear “the offer was not considered to be adequate.”

While Ramirez’s attitude and that of his agent have infuriated the Rossoblu, it is now claimed they are prepared to start from scratch with the Saints.

It’s reported that last night Southampton called Bologna to apologise for the confusion and confirm their intention to do things by the book, so talks begin again on Monday.

The price-tag remains the same - €15m for 70 per cent of his contract, so not including a commission for the agent and the 30 per cent still owned by Penarol.

Bologna want the cash upfront, but this could be sorted out with payment in instalments."

I do love these translations of Italian media reports/tweets. Very much 'God Moaning. The resist-once have accqo-aired a bum. They are going to ex-plod the whaleway brodge.'

Also sounds relatively simple if treated like a sell on clause.

With a sell-on clause, it's clear who owns the player, who gets paid and by how much. I don't know if co-ownership works in the same way, but I doubt it does. Italy is famous for red tape, corruption and dodgy dealings after all. He's a footballer, you either have him or you don't. Co-ownership is not a concept I'm too confortable with.

Good job in the regard that to bring him to these shores we have to cut them out of it. We should be able to.

I doubt it's co-owner ship because Penarol aren't Italian, I think, not 100% but I think co-ownership can only exist between Italian sides.

Not clear whether price accepted by Bologna sets the price we have to pay to Penarol or whether we have to negotiate with Penarol separately. Can Penarol say no and hang on to their 30% which means it is unacceptable in the PL? Remember the problem with Tevez and West Ham?

The problem with Tevez is entirely different.

This isn't an issue here, guys. It's been established through the articles that the issue is we didn't offer enough to compensate for 30% of the fee going to Penarol. We'll sort that.

Too much disagreement between the two parties, the President sounds like a four letter word, and now they want 20 million. Look at Buttner.

It's an entirely different situation, what are you talking about? They want 20m Euro which is only £2-3m more than we've offered...

Saints fans on suicide watch over nothing, once again.

I wouldn't be suicidal if we didn't sign him because I wasn't expecting to be linked with someone of his quality. Cortese normally throws a hissy fit if people push him around.
