Hi MAJR. You'll probably get called a WUM shortly but I'll answer it for you anyway. Yes, I can understand how on the face of it a newly promoted club spending lots of money could seem reckless. But by far the biggest investment since Nicola has been in charge, has been at the training ground. Also if we were to sign Ramirez (or Matt Phillips), they are both young players with large resale value, same with Jay Rodriguez. Without retelling the Pompey story, when they went pop they were left with nothing but some unsellable players who ended being paid more in League 1 than most of the Southampton players in the Premiership. As Cortese has said before, if the Liebherr family decided they did not want to be involved any more (and they do), he could have a list of buyers lined up with no problem. In short, Southampton very well run, Portsmouth not. Incidentally if you are looking for a candidate for the next Pompey, I still think Blackburn.

Alright then. I was only speaking as an outside observer and, as you say, it seems a bit reckless for a newly promoted team to spend money like you have. All I was asking was whether you are all certain you're working within your means and not overspending like we did.

I'd personally be gutted if the Ramirez deal falls through. It's amazing how every rival club is leaping upon the "money" quote, taking it completely out of the context of what GR was saying and the manner in which it seemed to be said. He also said he was young and needed to play first team football to continue developing which to me sounds like a young man with his head screwed on the right way.

Fingers crossed still.

I think we all need to be patient. If Adkins wants him I'm sure Cortese will up the offer. I think we will get Ramirez in the end. He obviously wants to join us so no issues there. I'm sure Cortese and the Bologna chairman will find a compromise.

Not sure that Cortese is being messed about. He made an offer which was turned down...normal practice. The Bologna Chairman has only come out because Ramirez has..he's not criticized Souhampton.

The Bologna chairman would have come out anyway, he is a hot head.

I am certain. :D

It's amazing how desperate for us to fail some of the Pompey faithfull are. If we spend nothing it's a sign that the Liebherrs have had enough and were unwilling to continue and we would be sold. Now when we are looking to spend realistic money we can clearly afford we are going to be the next Pompey!

We have faith in Nicola and Sir Nigel

You cheeky blighter.

How dare you come on here lecturing us on financial prudence.

You might do better to keep a close eye on what is happening at your own club.

I dread to think what will happen if your club goes into administration again.

Maybe he's just a concerned neighbour, not wanting us to make the same mistakes. ;) <laugh>

The Skates are best served worrying about their club's dim survival prospects rather than trying to wind us up. But if (when) the time comes and Pompey fold, which could be any time soon, they'll be on here in droves.

Ramirez has not travelled with the Bologna team for there match tonight. The deal is in Saints hands, Ramirez wants to join.

I still think he will be a Saints player. To bigger player to miss out on.

Was that a shot at me? Cause if it was then I'm afraid you're barking up the wrong tree. I like Southampton at a club. It just concerned me because I saw in one of the many transfer rumours you find on the internet that Spurs hadn't signed Ramirez because he wanted more for wages than they were prepared to offer, then added to the money you've been throwing around I was struck by the way Pompey behaved under Gaydamak. So what your saying is that I'm not allowed to show any concern for Southampton - a club I like and have never had anything against - just because I support Pompey?

Trust me, I have enough concern about my own club right now, but that does not mean that I can't ask a legitimate question from the position of an outsider as to whether Southampton are not taking being unduely risky in their financial dealings. I dont want Southampton to make the same mistakes Pompey did, though I will never "support" Southampton no matter how much I might have liked your club historically speaking. Though I did acknowledge that my known status as a Pompey fan made it impossible for me to ask such questions to you without coming across as a WUM.

MAJR, I see nothing in your recent comments that make you sound like a WUM. Your questions were both considered and reasonable. It seems some of our board members see 'Pompey' and freak out! I certainly welcome general interest in SFC from those who don't support Saints so long as they are not simply causing trouble!

im sure this deal is all down to the Don, he always brings us something back from his holiday, and besides I do not think that NA would ask for a player at his price. The Don does not like to lose so if required I think he will up the offer. Ramirez is not covering himself in glory though, why players have to gob off before they sign beats me
