i don't think saints have any debt to either banks or owners. i could be wrong but i'm pretty sure that's right. remember, their ground is bigger and they do at least have a relatively low wage structure in place. i'm all for clubs being run sensibly by owners and saints are among the seemingly few that are. they've invested in youth.

Now you are getting on my nerves a bit lad, we're DEBT FREE ALREADY. We buy within our means our means are bigger than yours as we have a richer chairmen and bigger stadium. Christ I came here with upmost respect of your club but you've not paid attention to anyone and just carried on blindly, "Superman wears Grant Holt pyjamas in bed" has at least done his research and come up with clear and well written posts.

Fine sorry my misunderstanding, just jealous ;)

Let`s both be happy we are not in the Championship; with these financial penalties being implemented this season upon any club who spends more than they earn (ie. directly targeting unsustainable owners bankrolling transfers), we are in a fortunate position to be here in the PL. It will be harder than ever to get promoted as those relegated clubs can spend those parachute payments without any penalties, whereas everyone else is subject to them.

Let`s see if Lambert and Rodriguez are Premier League quality and can match the heights acheived by Morrison, let alone Holt, with his 17
 
This sort of deal just shows how the game has gone completely mad... Soton can have Ramirez for £11.8mil and wolves want £12mil+ for Matt Jarvis. Absalute ludicrus <doh>

Well, he was on about 7k a week at Bologna and Spurs took the piss thinking anything's an improvement on that. When I saw he admitted he's choosing us because we're "paying him so much money" my stomach dropped a bit - until I realised it was 2m euros a year which is only £30k a week, far, far less than most players of his standard!!

That depends on what the debt has bought and if it's sustainable. Not all debt is bad. If this and our other signings* have effectivly bought us a mid-table place (not saying they have), then they were well worth the capital debt as long as we keep in our wage structure and can afford the repayments. As I said, it's like a Mortgage - is it bad that I borrowed 4*my yearly salary to buy a flat? I don't think so because I can afford the monthly repayments and the flat has gone up in value. Look at our signings, almost all are young under 25s who will only go up in value & most are English, so we can inflate their prices even more.

*Rumour is that there's another Maquee signing in the works...

No Saints fan really believes we'll get into Europe this season, we joke about it and have the occasional dream of "maybe, just maybe..." If we stay up, mid-table and Europe will be targets for next season. As for Champions League, that's the club's longer term stated ambition; none of us really think it will happen soon, if at all.
We just like the fact that the club is aiming high; things like (very early) stadium expansion plans (artists impressions, really), the recent £15mn investment in our training ground, the aim to have 50% of our players come through our academy and a recent track record of hitting any target we aim for have generated a buzz and excitement round the club - some of our more eager fans get carried away and other general trolls also latch onto it & make us look bad by rubbing it into fans of other clubs as if we've already achieved all of it. We've already achieved more than our wildest dreams in the last 3 years, so please let us dream some more - the talent in youth team hasn't helped calm us down. Look out for Luke Shaw and James Ward-Prowse wowing the pundits in the cups this season...

Interesting, (not havng a go at Soton) but their wages were about 90% of turnover, I expect the rewards of the PL will mean this will go down, which just serves to highlight the financial benefits of getting to the top tier.
 
Think this could be a cracking signing for the saints...as always there's an element of risk with signing players from abroad with big transfer fees i.e kleberson, anderson, dos santos to name a few.

I swear i read somewhere Spurs had a bid accepted but the player rejected it cos they didn't offer him a decent enough wage...would seem strange they woul

Lambert's not had a great pre-season, but never does & he's a much better all-round player than when you last saw him in L1. I think he can make the step up - I believe he's actually friends with Holt and was quoted as saying something like "Grant told me that it was easy in the premiership" or similar (maybe from Holt's side, I forget). Lallana & Schniderlin are both still here and IMO will cut it fine - not sure how many other key players were in the team when we played you last, a lot of new faces in since then (and a lot out).

Think this could be a cracking signing for the saints...as always there's an element of risk with signing players from abroad with big transfer fees i.e kleberson, anderson, dos santos to name a few.

Arsenal & Chelsea have been after Luke for a while, but he's played for the 1st team in pre-season a couple of times now. And we don't need to sell, if he get's his head turned by a big club we can force them to pay silly money, but now we're in the prem, I'm pretty sure he'll stay. After all he didn't go when they tried to get him last season.
It's James Ward-Prowse (play-making midfielder, also played with 1st team in pre-season) that I'm quite excited about, but no rumours of him trying to get snapped up have come along yet; keep an eye on him (probably in the league cup) - but don't tell anyone shhhhh!
 
I've always said saints would be the hardest of the three coming up. Makes me laugh that people are writing them off, just like they wrote us off.

They've got cash, but they're no QPR, this guys under 100 years old for a start.

They are building, time will tell if it works it always does but I wish them a certain degree of luck for the season.

Thanks :smiley: I think it's strange that a lot of so called experts are saying you guys will go down too. You did well last season, and you've got a cracking manager in Chris Hughton. Makes no sense.
What's even weirder is that no one thinks West Ham will go down, despite finishing below both us & Reading. After watching them so much last season I see them strugling worse than you or us (or Reading); unless they somehow stop the Hoofball, that is.
 
Isn't this the kid linked with United, Spurs etc?

Could be a great coup for them...slightly envious to be honest and I think others are going by their posts in this thread!

i watched luke play for england under 16's about a year ago - he was sensational - reminded me of bale but with far more awareness than bale had at that age. i hope you can keep hold of him as he'll develop a lot quicker with saints than sitting in the reserves elsewhere <ok>
 
Just to expand on this but just goes to show we really need to start looking in the foreign market..perhaps not at this price bracket but still.

This kid is supposed to be top drawer and is moving around for a price in the same region as Jarvis or Moses (in the last year of his contract)? Also I bet his wages are a good 20k below what those two will be requesting at West Sham and Chelsea respectively.
