http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...id-to-sign-Michael-Owen-hangs-in-balance.html Owen is keen to remain in the Premier League after his release from Manchester United at the end of last season and has held talks with Tony Pulis, the Stoke manager. But the deal looks doomed as Stoke are only prepared to offer the 32 year-old a structured deal based on appearances, due to his poor injury record at United. Owen spent three seasons at Old Trafford but made only four appearances in his final campaign and has not played since Unitedâs Champions League clash with Otelul Galati in November. Stoke were planning to offer Owen a 12-month deal with the promise of an extension if he plays a certain number of games, a similar deal to the one offered to Jonathan Woodgate last summer. But Owenâs representatives are believed to be seeking a more lucrative package and Stoke are now looking at other forwards, with Spursâ England international Jermain Defoe a likely target if fringe players are sold to raise money.
Sgt IF yes IF we could get Defoe ... fantastic. Not at all fussed about the Owen deal due to the above report.
We've been after Defoe for a while it would seem, and considering Crouch is good mates with him it's no surprise. Wouldn't be surprise me if Crouch is trying to convince him, just like Woody was convincing Crouch to come here.
Sgt I posted a comment about Defoe some time back! Having not posted that often... I did say something along the lines of.. " The same guy who told me Crouch would sign, long before he actually put pen to paper. Has told me there's a better than even chance that Defoe could be joining us" It seem's to be on/off all summer long. I guess the fact that Spurs have a new manager might put a damper on this move.. So we'll wait and see. Crouch AND Defoe up front?? Would be fantastic IMO
Would love to see Defoe come in, we could do with offloading some of the less dynamic players aswell.
I mentioned Defoe on the thread where we were discussing who we would like a while back, but I cant see TP sticking 8 - 12 million and 60K a week into any striker let alone one like Defoe. I hope my comments are wide of the mark though! In relation to Owen I think it would be a massive waste of wages and have expressed my concern in this rumour many times. However, I would like to make 1 simple point in relation to trying to structure a pay as you play deal with appearance criteria. What idiot in his right mind would sign up to a deal like that under TP?
I'm sorry fellas but I can't see you getting Defoe, at least for now, as he's our only senior striker!
Canary Spurs ?? Reading your board mate.. seem's that some Spurs fan think that Defoe should be sold and a (better) more prolific striker bought in? Although if I'm correct, Crouch and Defoe did very well together at WHL.. good luck for the coming season too! And just one question Canary. WHY? did Arry leave does any Spurs fan know the true reason. Just as an outsider i'm curious.
Michael Owen overvaluing his worth? *insert shocked face* The lad doesn't like playing football, he'd be gutted if he had to play regularly for a decent club like Stoke, who would look after his horses?!
............. We're in a stable condition finacially.... we may have few player's who should be put out to grass IMO. I don't bet on the geegees... maybe we're all cluthing at straw with this one. Should Pulis sign Owen? I think eeore to look elsewhere and find a younger/fitter player.
