If as seems likely, Vaughan is loaned/sold, then I think we can expect another striker, unless CH has seen something in Chris Martin that most of us haven't seen when he's played for us in the past. Not sure who we should go for, but gut feeling tells me that it will be a foreign player, as CH made some very sound buys when in charge at Newcastle.

martin hasn't hardly played pre-season. i don't think hughton sees him as the answer. i think if/when vaughan goes, it'll be a loan signing up front.

Now surely nobody would say no if we could get him on loan with Huddersfield paying 80% of his wages would they?

there were more rumours (i hasten to add, thats all they were) about guidetti.

not convinced by them but he is a player who i think could make an impact.

    either him or rhodes <laugh>

Ive been seeing through the summer, that there has been some real bargains coming into the prem from foreign lands. Im sure we could find a suitable striker within our price range who could do the job that require of them.

Have you seen toon have signed Anita for 6mil euros <ok>

i did see that - sadly i never felt we had the ammunition to compete for his signature. good signing for them. i wonder if that means they'll lose tiote? agree there are bargains to be had - i imagine we aren't the only ones saying that though!

I don't think it's a priority but at the same time wouldn't be an unwelcome addition. I think it's very much the case of if the right one comes along who represents value for money. The whole goals drying up thing I am not worried about, I think we proved it last year we can score goals if it is a problem sort it in January.

I shall add though, don't want Vaughan to go. Think he has goals in him myself.

the difference there was that worthington went into the season with no strikers capable of banging the goals in on a regular basis! we had mckenzie and svensson who weren't prolific, he'd already released our main goal scorer (iwan) and replaced him with doherty (who was intended to play up front when he signed). we also had only damien francis who scored goals from midfield and lost our goals from defence with the loss of mackay. now we have three or four strikers capable of scoring goals, two of which are proven already at this level, and a midfield full of goalscoring potential. completely different situation.

We didn't prove that we had goals in us in the top flight when Worthy was in charge. <ok>
