More to the point irdan, must not want to push our club to the brink of extinction again! Surely you can see, DM has turned around the fortunes of our club, he has not done it so we can potentially throw money away on what is at best, a risky venture! Do you really want us to be the next Portsmouth, or Rangers?

Please let's have a bit of decorum and common sense!

Look I'm sorry but I got very wound up when someone uses the Doh to put my point down think it is well out of order I have an opinion too!
 
Forgive me Dave, but I personably find it a bit arrogant of you to suggest that only people who agree with you and Supers' mantra around this are the ones beholding of any "common sense". This is a debating forum and debate the issue is all I have done with this, offering up (very reasonable in my opinion) reasons why people think we should be looking to bring in someone with the goalscoring record and potential such a Rhodes.
We all agree that this year is going to be tougher than last so why is it so bizarre and "ridiculous" for people to think bringing in a highly rated goalscorer who could easily be worth £10m in a year or two to the club.

Once more, I'm not saying we should necessarily sign him and of course I don't want us to break the bank and risk the club's financial future, that would be bonkers as I'm sure we all agree. However if the club do feel it is a small risk worth taking (there must be a fair old wedge of our supposed "biggest ever budget" remaining) then I personally find it ridiculous that we're not allowed to so much as suggest it.

Apologies of some people are so offended by the use of a <doh> emoticon to highlight a point. My suggestion to them would be to politely grow a pair <ok>

people people people, it really is very simple.

you can want us to sign rhodes as much as you want. you can think that £7m up front plus add ons is worth it if you like, even for a league one striker. you can get arsey with me and dave because we keep getting wound up that people keep bringing his bloody name up every 5 minutes but it won't change a thing.

norwich city are not interested in signing jordan rhodes. they cannot afford to pay his fee, they cannot afford his wages and more importantly, they aren't and have never even been interested in him.

i want us to sign lionel messi but it isn't going to happen! ok, slightly more over the top than rhodes but my god, its just as pointless. huddersfield have made it virtually impossible for any club to buy him - that is their prerogative. they pay him humungous wages for a kid of his talent and history. not one premier league club has even bid for him. someone will take a gamble on him eventually but they won't be paying £7m up front for him based on one good season in league one and an international goal - they will bide their time and see how he gets on in the championship. maybe he will improve this season and alert our team? things can change...

comparisons to our league one boys are futile - they were reasonably priced and didn't offer the same kind of risk factor. people say rhodes could be worth £10m next season if he does well. IF!! he might be worth £2m.

our scouts have done a pretty darn good job over the past three years - i trust their judgement of rhodes more than anyones thanks and they don't think he is even close to being worth it <ok>
 
Supers, you tell us time and time again that you "know" all this stuff from your contacts within the club, however I clearly remember not so long ago that you were assuring us that Lambert was going nowhere - and especially not to Villa as soon as Martin O'Neill tells him all the bad stuff about Randy Lerner (according to the man himself MON's advice was one of the main reasons he did jump ship to Villa Park) and also to prepare ourselves for the impending transfer of Grant Holt. Ok, you'ew going to come back and counter with the fact you never said anything for definite, but you did bang on about both issues in a very adamant fashion, you can't deny that surely.

I'm not sure who your contact is, but I'm pretty sure they don't tel you everything about the in and outs of the club and bearing in mind you were entirely wrong about both those earlier claims I hope it doesn't offend you too much if I and some others keep an open mind about this, and in fact all things NCFC related until I actually hear anything from the club itself <ok>

I'm tired of debating the same old close season rubbish and I just want the season to start so that people can stop having a pop at each other for having a difference of oppinion.

Some of what gets written on here is condescending and arrogant to say the least and I find it best to ignore it most of the time. The way some people choose to put their points accross is over assertive and frankly rude at times and that can offend people.

I don't come on to a forum to offer an alternative oppinion or point of view to get slated and riddiculed for it or have the doh signs used to put it down. It can come accross as rude at times and frankly it is a bit off putting.

**** me, some of you lot are completely nuts! i never had any knowledge of the lambert thing - i said that at the time and i said my gut feeling was that he wouldn't go to villa. i was hardly alone in having the same gut feeling.

you may not want to hear this but the things re: grant holt have not all come out yet and when they do (these things normally come out eventually) i shall expect an apology for doubting me on that one - i doubt i'll get one.

i know for a fact we are not after rhodes. believe me or not, i don't care, but its laughable that people think we should be paying £7m UP FRONT for a striker who has never played in the top two divisions, regardless of whether or not we want him anyway.
 
What would be ridiculous is paying £13 million for a winger like Oxlade Chamberlain when he had never played in the top two leagues (might have that wrong). Guys why the dogmatic views? Surely there is scope for flexibility is how and when players are signed. I'm not advocating signing or attempting to sign Rhodes, primarily because of he would potentially feck up our financial state, but surely there is room for shades of grey in these debates

i agree with that to be fair. there is flexibility, but its only ever the really massive clubs who will gamble on a youngster from lower down and pay that kind of wonga. a deal like that could kill norwich financially. i'd personally have urged norwich to try and sign nick powell from crewe, even though he'd only played in league two. i wouldn't have wanted us to pay £4m - nearer £3m and i'd have considered it more realistic, but you get my point. players are only ever worth what someone is willing to pay for them. rhodes is vastly overpriced in both my eyes and it seems the entire footballing world's eyes. i am not suggesting and have never suggested i don't think he'd be a good signing for us - i think he has the potential to do well, though i'm not convinced - but its out of the question. that may disappoint many people but that's just the way it is i'm afraid.

Facts - Huddersfield are a rich club with a wealthy owner - Rhodes has an excellent goalscoring record in a lower league - Huddersfield do not want to sell him - He is on a very high salary and has suggested he would want a big increase to move - Huddersfield won't sell unless they get a silly offer in excess of £7m.
One side of the debate argues that we haven't got the funds to make silly offers, have a wage structure which will not be broken for one player, if we won't break it to buy Premiership experience we won't break it for an unproven striker and we will not and cannot go down that route to possible financial ruin. All of this is perfectly true.
The other side are not arguing against this but suggesting that Rhodes is a decent player and deserves a chance in the Premiership which is a completely different point.
Unless somebody is suggesting that we should offer £7m to Huddersfield and also shatter our wage structure it is a pointless debate because, unless we do, Rhodes can be of no more interest to Norwich than any other player wanting wages well above our structure. Munky is right when he says that Rhodes could be a good buy and Supers is right when he says that he won't be coming to Norwich but they are completely different points.

To be honest if you read what I've written on this thread my feelings about it are nowhere near as strong as you suggest. I've said several times that I'm NOT saying we SHOULD sign him, and certainly not for £7m up front! If you look closer I said if we could get him for £5m and 22k a week it would be good business, not saying we can or will, just offering a potential scenario that I think would be attractive. What I am merely doing is offering an alternative perspective that many people do have that is based on some actual facts (that he's scoring at a rate of a goal every 1.8 games over the course of 180 appearances, not one season), rather than just saying "he's not good enough" or "he's only had one good season", the latter of which is patently untrue as I have highlighted many times.

I wish people would stop putting words into my/others fingers that I/they have have never typed, some people read that part and assume I/others have been saying different to what they are actually saying, which kind of makes the whole point of a debate pointless.
