which goalkeeper would you rather be right now? Hamer or Elliot? I can see hamer having a much better career, maybe even an england call up.
Elliott ruined his career going to Newcastle, he wont get the nod ahead of Krul. Also he has put himself out of the shop window, as now only a league 1 side would sign him knowing he would comfortably be number 1 material. We are now in the Championship, and if all goes well and we soon get to the prem, how sick will he feel sitting on the bench watching us play his new side knowing if he had stayed he would have been between our sticks. Was an odd move, but i am happy as i think Hamer is a better stopper, plus Elliott had a real problem maintaining weight, every game he looked like he had either lost 2 stone or put 3 stone on. Hamer could be a future England bench warmer, but there is no way he will ever be on the same level as Joe Hart (best keeper in the world in my opinion)
thats how i see it. and screw loose? didnt a young keeper from the champ play for england just last night?
I'm still not confident when Hamer is in goal. He has several strengths, but I always feel there is a mistake around the corner. Elliot had a good 6 months during our first season in League One, but after that he flattered to deceive.
I preferred Elliott a hell of a lot more as an individual. He seemed like a true gent, and loved the club. Hamer on the other hand seems quite arrogant. In terms of footballing ability I'd say they're about the same. Elliott was more capable of pulling off spectacular saves and kept us in countless games. Hamer's distribution is one of the best I've ever seen for a keeper. I think Hamer has a brighter future though as he'll be playing regular Championship football for us, and given his age, has a decent chance of playing in the Premier League. Elliott on the other hand did his career no favours by signing for a club with one of the top keepers in the league above him in the pecking order.
Difference between Carl and Robbie is that Jenkinson has joined the club he and his family support where as Robbie has left the club he supported as a kid.
Elliott left the side he supported to rot on a bench for more money than being a hero for his own team, i lost a lot of respect for him and cant see how anyone who loves the club could do that. I don't see Hamer as arrogant at all, although i think the haircut may create the illusion he is, he looks like a Dapper Dan man...
Maybe the fact that I used to be a goalkeeper makes me judge people harshly, but Hamer is nowhere near good enough to play for England in the foreseeable future.
Defo not at the moment, but he is still young and had a solid first season with us. If he can do as well in the championship and continue to progress, in future i think he could be in with a shout
I prefer Hamer's flapping to Elliot's weakness in front of long-distance shots. Jenkinson has more chance of breaking through to Arsenal's first team, or a move to a Premier League club than Elliot. In terms of ability, I would say Randolph - Hamer - Elliot In terms of career progression, I would say Hamer - Randolph - Elliot That may all change if Celtic go bust, join Rangers in D3, and Randolph gets a SPL title
It would be hilarious, wouldn't it? But with declining matchday and TV revenue, no competitors and worsening performances in Europe (unlike, say, Shamrock Rovers, they needed a legality to qualify for the group stage of the Europa League last year), you never know... After that, I guess football in Scotland probably would collapse entirely and everyone would start playing shinty or curling. Still better than the Celtic-Rangers show, mind
Can't agree with you more, being a former keeper too however I normally try to support keepers, goal Keeper's union and all... but I simply think Hamer flaps at way too much while as it's been said Elliot couldn't deal with distance shots very well. But we'll always have complaints about our goal keepers anyway. Even my idol Dean Kiely had his down sides.... mainly I don't every remember him coming for a cross ever, just he'd make up for it with the best shot stopping ability I have seen at the Valley.
The thing about Deano was TED..... his centre halfs knew that he was never coming for a cross (they also noticed that he did not have a reflection in a mirror) and so just dealt with crosses themselves, there was never any confusion!
Krul injured tonight.... elliot to be given a game? nope, they bring in the third choice and keep elliot on the bench. i would much rather be hamer now. especially as the world has seen his overhead kick...
