I am actually a little gutted it's all done with now. Not particularly looking forward to the new football season as well now, don't think I'll enjoy it as much. It hate to say. I really hope this atmosphere created by the Olympics continues and that a legacy really is carried on. I even find myself on a miserable Monday morning thinking of my what I want to do next career wise and possibly take up sports again. It's inspired me and I am sure it has a lot of people, I just really hope it lasts and people do something if they have been inspired rather than let it fade off.
Agreed! If it affects even one person that's great. I kind of agree with 1950 in the Inspire a generation thread, some people will try a sport for a week then give up, but he didn't listen to my response that it's down to what the government and others do to maintain the legacy of the games.
I made my views very clear on both of the Olympic threads and, despite being a minority of one, I stand by every word I said. I am glad it is over, I enjoyed a couple of things but in general I had little enjoyment and having watched the closing ceremony I wished I hadn't. Whilst I am a minority on this board it is interesting that I was in a pub last night where I am an infrequent visitor and listened to a debate between 8 or 10 blokes - suffice to say that my views were more moderate than any expressed there. I also listened to a radio phone in this morning and already the views seemed split between the ' wasn't it great ' and the ' what a waste of money ' camps. My views on the legacy. For 2 weeks we will see a huge number of people running and cycling everywhere but it will gradually decrease and by the end of the year be back to pre-olympic levels. The Government will make encouraging noises about money for sport but after 6 months will revert to cutting funding, selling off playing fields and forcing local Councils to charge more and more for the use of sporting facilities. The existing facilities will be well used for 6 months and then, like other venues before such as Barcelona, fall into disuse and decay. In 6 months the Government will have to admit how much this adventure has cost us and Joe public will start moaning about the cost inflicted on recession ridden Britain - by then the same public will have stopped having orgasms at the thought that we might win a bronze in the syncronised hop skip and jump. At the moment we are told that it will cost about £10bn - about £200 per taxpayer. The cost will undoubtedly go up - see how the taxpayer reacts to that when we get clobbered in the next budget!! Spain and Greece are still paying for their Olympics and look where it has got them. Ask the average Greek or Spaniard whether they are happy with the money spent trying to impress the rest of the world. TV, including Sky, will make a token effort to show more minority sports but in 12 months time we will be back to the status quo. This is my final post on the subject - I won't respond to any comments made - but it will be interesting to look back in 12 months time to see if I am wrong.
As much as I agree with most your saying, the thing I don't agree with is the attitude. You seem like you don't want the leagacy to last, people need to believe it will for it to last. Also think sometimes it's too easy to blame the government sometimes, not defending them but if a London Olympics and a miraculous Team GB performance doesn't inspire people, not 100% sure what will. The government don't stop people going for a run, riding a bike. They have announced they are going to fund until 2016 as well.

Didn't like either ceremony's that much, though both were a spectacle and brilliantly done. Agree with Redruth about some of the performers, drugs addicts are NOT good roll models for anyone, let alone athletes. While watching the bit of Freddie Mercury during the Band/Live aid concert, I couldn't help wondering what he would have done to that crowd if he'd still been alive and had been invited to be there. Best front man ever Freddie Mercury, would be interesting to see what he was like if he was still alive. I thought same about John Lennon, and concluded, miles better than Paul McCartney.
