I'll certainly buy you a pint as well Queens. But you'll have to get your arse back here for a game next season. You know you'd love it up the bush..... No pun intended.
Sorry Nines, but can't agree. All these knighthoods and damehoods dished out to Redgrave, Hoy, Holmes, Pinsent and the like just cheapens the honour. We have OBEs, MBEs and CBEs to recognise these sorts of endeavours, so why bypass these straight to the ultimate? I guess expressing this viewpoint may be construed as raining on everybody's Limpik parade, but please, please, please let's keep a sense of perspective.
Totally agree with your reasoning and cant fault it, but the other side of the argument is..."if he got one, why cant I?"...Not even gonna bring skin colour into it but it will obviously be mentioned in the Sun or something..... Also if mo get something, then so should Ennis, hoy....etc.... Think the whole team GB should get some recognition..as a team TBH...not sure how though?
You just did (Lol). To be fair, there was a damehood for Kelly Holmes. I don't subscibe to this "he got one, so why can't I?" mentality. You've got to stop the rot at some stage. The problem was that the populist Blair administration capitulated to the clamour for Redgrave to be knighted, then realised they couldn't ignore Pinsent's achievements. The precedent was set, so it was no surprise to see the likes of Hoy next. It is the same rubbish as giving the gongs to Jagger and McCartney. It'll be Dame SuBo next.
They said you couldn't drive to the Olympics, well I did - and had to, due to the carparks serving the bus links all being full. Straight into Marylebone Road, onto Baker Street, then Chiltern Street Car Park. Short walk down Baker Street, Seymour Street and into Hyde Park for the Triathlon. Journey back even smoother using the tube, well sign-posted and loads of volunteer support on-hand. Great atmosphere too. Even the Olympic lanes were open; took a whole 30 minutes off my usual journey times. No complaints from me.
We watched with a group of about 16 extended family gathered for first grand child's 1st birthday so a double celebration for us as we cheered Mo home. With regard to some of the issues 'debated above' - please! As to Sports Personality of the Year, all our Olympians are awesome but Wiggins - gold and breaking a 100 year duck to win the TDF. No brainer for me!!
Hoy already has a Knighthood, but I don't think there's many people on here would say no to giving one to Ennis.
Grease...?...god we're a bunch of old fogies aint we..I remember seing that as a kid at Hayes Cinema on Uxbridge road...!! As for rewarding Ennis..I'm first in line please !
Never mind you being first in line, you could have a head start and you'd still not get there first because after celebrating the 100m title with the Swedish women's handball team Usain Bolt is out for another night's partying.
