    What are your thoughts?

Although we obviously didn't set the world alight, we won the tie, which is the important thing. I was really pleased that we scored all of our penalties, nobody gets a confidence knock by missing.

I thought that Dudgeon did really well today. It seems like he is Bruce's preferred LB, and I hope he starts there against Brighton. Did very well defensively, and isn't scared to get forward either. Similarly, Stewart made some great runs, had a good game, and was very unlucky at times - hopefully this game will have boosted his confidence.

On the downside, Koren didn't play great, but to be fair he was out on the left for most of the game (but drifting inside). It is an awkward position for him, and i'd still like to see us play a 4-1-2-1-2 so that we can see him in his best position. If Stewart and Aluko play well, then we are going to have threats in the wide positions, so we need someone dangerous in the centre of midfield to draw men away from the wing, or take advantage of teams that put two men on Stewart/Aluko. Although I think that Cairney has the ability, he isn't really doing it at the moment, but surely Koren is the man.

That was a tough match. Credit to Rotherham for playing some good stuff and working very hard.

I thought we were sloppy quite often, and we didn't look our usual selves. I think a few players were rusty though, so I'm confident we'll improve.

Nick P seemed to sulk a bit at times, and the ball seemed to just bounce off him. I hope this is just an issue with fitness/sharpness as he didn't seem to control or hit anything cleanly today. Patience required.

It still had an air of pre-season about it for me.

Anyhow, the major positive is that we got past the first round of the League Cup for a change.

I'm sure we'll see more drive and impetus against Brighton.

Also, did Bruce say much post-match? Not had chance to get Humberside on.

Definitely need a new winger. Koren and McLean stuck on the wings today - this is why I can't comprehend the Garcia release.

Even with Aluko cleared to play we could quite easily be struck down by an injury to one or the other. Plus the fact that they're not going to be in the right place mentally if they know they're 100% guaranteed a place in the starting XI with no-one to compete. Unless you count Devitt <whistle>

Was Rosie injured? For Bruce Snrs sake I hope so... Bruce Jnr looked solid but regardless he shouldn't be ahead of Simpson when we're after the win.

Fryatt looked a bit sloppy today didnt really turn and run onto the ball. I thought Mcshane came on and did fantastic Mclean came on and started winning some headers for us which was nice and nick.p's pen was particularly pleasing :)

Hopefully Stewart will have gained a lot of confidence from today as their right-back was pretty woeful and he made several dangerous runs in behind their defence.

I thought Alex Bruce had a very solid when he came on for Rosenior, although I'm not sure why he came on in the first place. (Was Rosenior injured or something?)

James Chester had that big striker in his pocket for most parts of the game.. And also that Nardiello is a grade 1 tosser.

After 2 consecutive exits to lower leage sides in the League Cup, i'm glad we avoided making it a hat trick!

I think it was more that he's just come back from injury and he didn't want to keep him on for any longer.

I think Stewart looked sharp and was a definite positive from the game, regardless of the ability of their rb it will give stewart confidence that he can still beat a man. Proswitchz didn't have the best of games, but it's early days. I hope we never see a back four containing Mcshane and Bruce simultaneously again, although to be fair they both did alright today against lower league opposition.

Their goal was a cracker and I like how about a quarter of the crowd didn't realise there was going to be extra time.

    Post-game thoughts... hmmm

First of all; this game needed to be advertised much better. The only people sat around me were family's with their kids on the loose (and this is in the SE corner!) and I felt like I couldn't shout the whole game. I did anyway... they'll learn. Plus it was disturbing to see so many people not even bother with extra time. If you truly "support" Hull City you stick until the end whether they're winning 6-0, in a boring 0-0 draw or are losing 8-1; that's my opinion and I was disgusted to see at least 40% of the crowd leave early.

Back to the game. Rotherham deserve credit because they put up one hell of a fight; and in that little number 7 (Ainsworth?) they have a really exciting prospect. Seeing McShane always brings fear into me; as he still looks like a raging horse going for the ball and completely missing it. Turning point of the game; when Aaron McLean came on. Thought the lad earnt his stripes today and really deserved his goal. Proschwitz is looking good away from the goal; think he's just nervous when he gets there but once he does score he'll get plenty and that penalty will have done him the world of good. Dudgeon was OUTSTANDING yet again; in his testimonial year the only way I can see Dawson getting in the team is through injury.

This one might be a bit different... I thought Cairney was god awful today. Walked EVERYWHERE. Looking forward to seeing Corry Evans back. Last but not least... is Matty Fryatt trying to become Bo Myhill?

P.S. - the new music before the teams come out is terrible. Bring back tigers tigers burning bright.

Mixed bag for me, but pleased with the win.

Abdoulah Faye before he was taken off was immense. Bullied their forwards, won most things in the air, better ball control than the rest of our team. Not bad for a 34 year old. If he's like that all the time I can't see Hobbs getting back in. Dudgeon looked good, as did Chester. Rosie was quite quiet.

McShame, after a slow start got better and better. Bruce didn't do anything wrong.

Unfortunately, Proschwitz looked poor all round other than one header and when he was pushed in the box for what seemed like a cast iron penalty from my angle. Presumably this is acclimatisation :emoticon-0114-dull:

Ben Amos ... well... erm.. not quite as bad as Golacsi, except for his kicking, which was shocking. Little argument with Chester when he wouldn't come to the ball when Chester wanted him to, unlike earlier when he came when he had no right to. Fully expect to see Jacupovic in the goal against Brighton.

Not overly keen on subbing Bruce and McShame on when we are trying to win a match but lets give the old fellow the benefit and say it was injury related.

Stewart to me looked like our main attacking threat, although two times he really should have passed to Fryatt. Still, even though he didn't really help the team out in any other way, he looked like he had a place in the team. McLean improved the team when he came on. Sounds familiar.

Fryatt clearly has a confidence problem as he really should have done better in sight of goal, but he played well for the team.

My lad loved the Penalties, which were all taken extremely well. Can't remember the last time I saw City take penalties, if at all, other than joke end of match "American Shootout" against Tampa.

Roll on next week. It's great to be back.

Firstly, where the fuk were you all. Top class new manager, new signings, big away following and a piss poor attendance. Shame on a lot of you.

Poor start to the game, Mckenna gets the ball moves forward two yards, steps into unknown territory, panics and gives a poor ball to Chezz which was cut out. Took awhile to get going after that. Credit to Evans, he may be a first class c*** but his teams are tough committed and can play a bit. Nardielllo, blonde left footer and Noble played well and the big lad up front was a handful.

Amos, not very commanding, good punch second half, kicking needs work too. No chance with the goal.

Rosy, lacking match fitness, solid display. Right cock up with their goal though, sh1te marking at the throw. Rosy had wandered into the middle for the big throw.

Chezz, i said on her about concentration the other week and was doubted. Looks great then its almost too easy and he switches off. Two big errors either side of half time should have been punished.

Faye, good solid display, we are more of a threat from corners now.

Dudgeon, solid, wasted a chance to cross a good ball in in the first half. Should be whipping em down the 6 yard line Jo.

Stewart, his body language is terrible at times. Sulks like a kid. Had two good chances to cross it in the first half. One he doesnt look up and hits straight at the keeper, 2nd one he puts it into touch. Some good runs, some woeful ones, even running the ball into touch once.

Mckenna and Cairney, neither can grab a game by the scruff of the neck. We need someone to do that quickly. Its popular t always blame TC but it has to be said Mckenna was absolute gash today. Tc only slightly better.

Koren, started wide left, some good link up play. Things didnt quite come off. He should have finished the pull back from Stewart. Looked really weak when he and TC played CM.

Prozzy, well. Not the big bruiser i was hoping for. Good feet, skilful. Not great in the air for his size. Skewed a first time left footer. Understanding with Fryatt need lots of work.

Fryatt, maddening in the first half when he didnt look up and shot from a poor angle with Koren screaming for it. Could have passed to Prozzy a few times and didnt. Didnt even hit the target in extra time when clean through.

Mclean did ok when he came on. Effort as usual, took his goal well.
Bruce, played well when he came on. Talks more than the full back four. Gave Prozzy a right bollocking for knocking a ball off first time.
Mcshane, just hilarious. He is definitely mental. Did anyone see when he tried to elbow Evans?? Even Evans was laughing.

I think SB will be well pleased with 120 mins of football under the teams belt. I reckon he can knock on the Allams door and say he needs 3 new players.

Turnout today was appalling, utterly appalling, it's disappointed me so much I can't be arsed to talk about the game.

I have a feeling the crowd may start to get at Proschwitz. Behind me this aftenoon, I was hearing a few nasty comments. Is he the new John Moore ?

Yeah the lad behind me was having a go at him, but to be fair he left early as well so I suppose it makes sense.
