This question will hopefully create some decent debate. Is Lee Cattermole an improvement on Dean Whitehead?
A very good question mate. My view is that Cattermole is better, yes. Cattermole should not have been given the arm band. It is too much responsibility for a young man. He should be left to concentrate on his own game. He has also been extremely unlucky with injuries this season. Whitehead has great energy levels and has a professional attitude to the game. I always thought his 1st touch was poor tough
Agree JDsafc, Catts has had 2 injury plagued season with us whereas Deano has enjoyed a relatively successful season with the Potters and even chipped in with a goal or 2 this term. I only brought this up after a discussion in the pub last night and due to Catt's description after the match as "good without the ball but poor with it". It kind of reminded me of Whitehead.
i don't know if he's better, about the same, but maybe he wasn't ready to be captain, unfortunatly neither is anyone else. but until we find a true leader, gotta keep him as captain, but once the young lad has that responsobility lifted, i'm sure he will be better than whitehead. posted on another thread about our SO CALLED REJECTS going to stoke, and questioned if we have replaced any of them with better?
Thought he was much better than Whitehead, until his injuries. Started to see a bit of his old self against brum, but ran out of steam. Needs a couple more games, without injuries or red cards. Apart from eating too much red meat before a game, IMO he will be a much much better player than Deano
YES. IMO, Cattermole is FAR better than Whitehead. Cattermole just needs to get fit and injury free, then we'll see what a good player the lad is.
Fit is not a word used very often at our place at the minute unless you put the word "not" infront of it. And yes Whitehead has peaked and Catts has not so they is definate room for improvement with him. Its just annoying when our cast offs seem to be doing better than our so called improvements.
On current form I would say definitely not. Cattermole was by far and away our worst outfield player on Saturday, and his distribution has been woeful for weeks now.
here's a few for you mate to decide, whitehead-catts, being done...... sorensen-mig/gordon jones-gyan then you've got collins/higginbotham-bardo and whoever we play in defence, and lastly delap, not the best player but god he's got a helluva throw,
It has to be Catts. I'm not criticising Deano, he did okay for us, but for tenacity, heart, energy, and importantly potential, Catts is way ahead of him. When fully fit and focussed he is much better.
Clattermole's dribbling, passing and long shots have shown some improvement this season. Or they had before the nasty injury. If they keep improving we'll be laughing.
IBWT, do you remember Whitehead playing for us mate? I can remember one good game he had for us (Arsenal away 0-0) and that is it. He had a couple of half decent games but mostly passed back or sideways and offered nothing at all going forward. Having said that the way SAFC played then probably hampered him as he seems to have settled in well at Stoke and is a much better player than he ever was for us. Cattermole when fit is a better player now but, we need to get him fit that means 100% not the 60% he seems to be running on.
