Not a Rhodes fan, but how do you know how much he earns? Do you have access to his wage slips or do you work in the payroll department at Huddersfield?
Vaughan for Rhodes? They aren't even members of FIFA. They play in one of these obscure biennial island tournaments involving Guernsey and IOM. That would give him time to get over his injuries though.
How do you know what the Norwich players are on? Did you have to give Grant Holt the green light before he signed his new contract? Did what McNally offer meet your expectations?
Northampton, please drop it! We all support the same team, and Supers has, in the past, worked at the club and so has access to information not readily available to the rest of us! Stop gnawing that bone, it might be your leg!
dave, its fine. northants has asked a fair question. fact is, i don't know how much the city players are on today as i've not been told - i'm sure i'll find out at some point - but certainly as of the end of last season, before new contracts began, our top earner (basic salary, before bonuses etc) was on just over £18k a week. rhodes was on £21k a week at huddersfield last season. there is no point asking me how i know because i won't tell you on a football forum
I hope Rhodes signs for someone else so all this speculation and be done with. It's pretty annoying, no offence to the OP but I mean more media and a few Norwich fans think it will be a good move. Supers I would have expected Howson and Holt to probably be on more than 18k a week now. I would probably say more than Rhodes but it is ridiculous wages nonetheless for a unproven Championship player, I agree with you on that. I think though Holt and Howson would be on more than him now. Possibly include Ruddy in that since signing his new contract.
they might be, but it'll be close! huddersfield have priced everyone out of a move for rhodes, which is quite their right, and its worked well. as i said elsewhere, i've been made well aware that he was never even a mooted signing for us, so the constant craving for him to be signed by a few of our fans gets rather tiresome!
I can't see how any Premier League team would want Rhodes when you look at his asking price, wages and experience in top two divisions. Agree with you on that.
I still think the lad is a natural goal scorer, and some-one will take a punt on him, I also think that he can cut it at the top level, but im in agreement that i dont think it will be with us, even though i would like him here.
Like Supers I have 2 good contacts at the Club but like all good contacts they only tell me what is going on shortly before it becomes public knowledge. I do not know what individual players earn but I understand that an across the board increase of 10% was applied at the end of last season. Lets not forget that 20k a week is over £1m a year!!!
I think more likely something will happen in January when they see how he does in the Championship. I think it can go either way. Mackail Smith absolutely blitzed League 1 got 9 goals in the Championship the following season which is disappointing. It is a big big risk with that price tag attached
totally agree. but i wouldn't be surprised to see a struggling club take a chance on him in january if they are short on goals
Good point well made Yellow. It's interesting to see how Mucky Duck didn't set the world alight at Brighton after his prolific years at Posh before - the same could be said for Chris Martin in reality who was red hot in L1 but struggled to get the same results in the Championship for us and while on loan at Palace. The same also could be said for players like Brett Pittman, Charlie Austin and Billy Paynter. Only really Holty and Ricky Lambert have carried on that streak and it will be interesting to see how Lambert does in the Prem (I think he'll do well actually) and Rhodes does in the Championship (less well I reckon).
Yeah, Chris Martin great example. The thing about Lambert and Holt though is they get goals in various different ways, that's probably why they have been more successful. Rhodes has that to a degree in his locker he can be an aerial threat as well as a finisher on the ball. I still don't think he will have the same success as them two though, purely because i don't hink Huddersfield will do as well as Norwich and Southampton have done.
i actually think rhodes will do well in the championship - 20+ i reckon and i believe lambert will be a revelation once he gets going in the top flight.
