I think for £5-8m, you can't go wrong really. I believe he could be like Luis Garcia - will frustrate you when he tries his tricks and they don't come off, but he can win a match with a moment of magic...

This is something we definately lack.

Also, it seems likely that Bellamy will be leaving in the next few days.

Rumoured to be having a medical at Cardiff this week. Also rumoured that Liverpool will pay up his contract less anything he might receive from Cardiff. A very strange decision and probably not a big deal for the might of Liverpool but for Cardiff it's a very big deal indeed.

Reading his wiki showed him up as basically the biggest 'hit or miss' signing we could make.

Still, on the cheap then fine. Don't think Besiktas would mind his loss by the sound of it.

As Liverpool are considering loan, Affelay could certainly be an option.

'Ibrahim Afellay's agent says the Barcelona midfielder would be interested in a loan move away from the club this summer. The Netherlands international has been linked with a string of clubs across Europe, including Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool.'

6. I hope we don't go down the loan route. Yes you could get one or two quality players for the season but it leaves the club at a stalemate for a year too.

Bellamy leaving? wtf? So now:

out:
Maxi, Aquilani, Kuyt, Bellamy

In:
Borini

Oh but it's ok, because Alen is on his way and set to be our transfer deadline day marquee signing <doh>

But now:

'After being quoted in the Italian media saying Ibrahim Afellay could leave Barcelona on loan, the midfielder's agent tells the Dutch media that it is 'very unlikely' that he will be changing clubs this summer.'

so no Affelay.

11. Since when do agents speak the truth...? If he says the players doesn't want to leave, a club offers more money to tempt him away.

09.39 BST: A host of Europe's leading clubs have been alerted by an admission from Ibrahim Afellay's agent that the Barcelona midfielder could be available on a season-loan deal.

Premier league sides Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked with Netherlands international Afellay, while Serie A clubs Inter Milan, Lazio, AC Milan and Fiorentina, as well as Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund and French club Lille, are also reportedly interested.

"Afellay could go out on loan for a year," his representative, Rob Jansen, told Italian reporters over the weekend. "Yes, that is a possibility."

Goes with what Rodgers was saying, I say let's make it happen.

A player I wanted for us so bad, but years ago....

11.52 BST: Malaga’s summer of woe could be stepping up a gear: Reports that Joaquin could leave the crisis-hit club and move to China.

What's the fuss over Afellay? Hasn;t he been injured all year? First kick from a Stoke player and he'll be out again for a year. Barca fan mate of mine isn't too fussed about him staying with them

Our whole squad is a gamble though. Carroll, Downing, Adam, Hendo, the list goes on, not one of those are reliable and are all risks. We need to spend some money and get some sure things, Suarez level stuff for around £20m.

Cazorla stuff around 20 :(

Jovestic around 20 now that we gave them Aqua for 7. :(

Highly doubt it. I am kind of prepared for Allen, Dempsey, and Ramirez/someone foreign. We won't get the others until we get CL or throw a **** load of cash at them.

Ben Smith (BBC) says that West Ham have given up their pursuit of Andy Carroll. Doesn't mean that he won't be leaving though ...

Players like Affellay and Quaresma - they can very risky, but they have the ability to produce special moments which can win a game. Only Gerrard and Suarez can currently do that.

Def agree that they are risky but it would feel good if we could get both of them in. If they can come out witha point to prove and fit into our system then they could be huge for us.

Which means we will probably end up with someone completely different. <laugh>

I would definately welcome them to our team. Affellay on loan and I'm hearing £8m for Quaresma. On paper, that would definately sort out our wings and they're both pretty versatile and technically gifted footballers.

Talks of Callejon and Tello on loan deals as well ...
