Doesn't sound promising then, I am sensing a possible change of heart by Bates?

Bates has a clear decision to make. This suggests to me he hasn't even made up his mind yet to offload the entire club. Personally, I find that worrying and suggests negotiations are not as advanced as we would have liked to believe. Indeed, we were led to believe that the takeover was in the final stages for some time. Doesn't read that way to me now if Bates still has decisions to make

I wouldn't put it past the old bastard to be waiting until he sold McCormack and pocketed the cash from that like he just did with Snoddy. Clearly Warnock has been getting on with signing the cheapo, filler players because Bates won't give him the money for the flair players.

Is Bates just waiting for people to buy up thier new shirts / season tickets etc..... (will he get the cash from current sales or does it go into the club?) This maybe the hitch... He wants to milk it as much as he can...

Reading between the lines and from Billy Is Gods comment it sounds like everything is in place and was in place a couple of weeks back when White signed his new contract. It is just a case of Bates signing on the dotted line, remember a while back the new company name that was registered, a standard procedure for when a business is being sold...

So two weeks or so on and we are still waiting on Bates - You have to ask why and it can only be one reason - Does he believe the wheeling and dealing and team building process so far carried out by NW is enough to get us promoted? If he believes it is HE WONT sell. It sounds to me like he is waiting to see how the finished squad looks, he might even be waiting to see how we perform against Wolves and Shrewsbury before making a decision, sell or not?

it really doesnt matter how 'it reads' to you mate or how you wish to interpret it with the greatest respect, the deal is agreed and just needs signing off, the delay is Bates.

Come on people, use your imagination.

The Bates hold-up could be for any number of reasons, not that he's bound to pull out. Perhaps he's waiting for his alleged health condition to improve before finalizing things. Perhaps he's handling the matter of the priority shares. Perhaps he's discussing with the mysterious other 20%-ish of shareholder(s) how they proceed (if they're not him). Perhaps he's got issues to resolve with the legal team - Mark Taylor (?) and Walker Morris. Perhaps he wants another player(s) sold before the deal's done. Perhaps he wants assurances that the hotel and East Stand complex are built and wants a slice of the 'profit' for his family. Perhaps he still has to sort out a bank for this money to go into, since he may get unfavourable rates from his existing groups.

Plenty of options, none of which would imply the delay means the buyout is in jeopardy.

Fair enough. But it's like someone telling you theyve written a cheque for money they owe you, it just needs signing. That's the crucial bit, as is the bit about Bates signing it off. Surely you can't blame some of us for being suspicious of Bates

But they didn't have books like ours though I'm willing to bet! Still that's two months of DD on a sale that looks relatively straight forward and didnt involve Ken Bates <ok>

It took Madjeski and Zingarevich 16 days to sign their deal - this included DD - Rest of the time has been with The Premier League - 1st they wanted proof of funds which took a while as Zingarevich had to get them transfered to a Financial institute that met the FA's criteria - no mean feat apparently - The 2nd was all of the poeple involved Zingarevich's side had to be vetted - 3/4 months seems a bit excessive even by Prem League standards, but in the wake of Pompey and Rangers maybe thats expected - wonder how fForest got theirs pushed through so quick?

Think Forest were family run was they not? So simple sell of shares then the deeds of ownership after DD.

Could be wrong, Im no expert in take overs or Forest!

It's interesting. The deal is ready to go, but the delay is with Bates.

I see exactly where Jerel is coming from.

But I think he missed one thing out - greed. Bates could be umming and ahhing about the chances LUFC have this season of getting promoted. Does he stay with it and attempt to take the gold pot - but that would mean bankrolling the club through the season and if there is no promotion then he is screwed - or does he take the lower guaranteed level of profit now?

So it's stick or twist. And of course, if it looks like it is all going pear-shaped by January/February and he tries to sell up then, any buyer would lower their price from now

It could be as simple as that. And everyone knows that when greed and possibilities get into the mind of a natural professional gambler, it is very difficult for them to turn it off.

Whatever happens, Bates will be gone by this time next year at the latest. Either because he got the prmomtion and got a better deal, or because he has had to slink off with his tail between his legs.
