The Mirror reports Huddersfield will offer £1m for Vaughan if they sell Jordan Rhodes .
Surely this would be a great opportunity to use Vaughan as a make weight in a deal to sign him for us ? Why else would we want to sell Vaughan as he's looked sharp this pre season ?
    Thoughts ?

Vaughan is a better prospect than Rhodes, who is not even proven at Championship level! Why would we want to pay £6M+ for Rhodes, then let them have a Proven Premier League player for £1M?

    No deal!

James Vaughan is on big wages and is a reason why Hughton wants to offload him this summer either loan or full transfer. Rhodes though is on even more at 21k p/w. Its been said Hughton wants to buy someone up top who will be more clinical but is looking abroad and is looking to offload vaughan to make space plus money to make this happen. rhodes will not be coming to norwich city!

Same here. I think Rhodes will be overpriced both in how much he costs to buy and in wages. As I said on another thread, look at Wickham and Beckford.

I see your point Dave but what happens if 2or 3 games in he breaks down again and out for months ?

That is a risk given his previous, but Rhodes is not the answer! If we could get him (Rhodes) for the sort of price we bought our other lower-league gems, on similar wages to them, he'd be worth a punt, but Huddersfield are asking for the price of a proven Prem striker, and he's asking wages to match! Too risky!

I would take Rhodes if the finances were sensible but not at the expense of Vaughan.
However if the plan is to sell Vaughan to raise funds and free up wages to buy a proven top level goal scorer from abroad then I could get on board with that.

He may well be the best thing since sliced bread, but the fee and wages being demanded make it a very high risk! I'm sure a team with more money than sense will take up the challenge! Wet Sham or Reading probably!

I almost want Vaughan to go now, just to see who comes in. Unless Newcastle counts as "abroad", it can't be Ameobi! <ok>

Having got the train there several times in the last 2 years I can confirm it is basically abroad. distance.

I think the media thinks we will make a lot more transfers than we will. A DM and maybe an extra CB, and I can't see us changing further unless we get silly money for someone.

The complete silence/absence of reaction suggests the men in white coats have already had to be called and have carted him away ....... <laugh>

    Yes Please!

Vaughan is on good form this pre-season but watch him get crocked in the first game v Fulham (of course i would never wish that on any player except Suarez or Muscat but it is inevitable i am afraid).

OK Vaughan started at 16 but in 103 games he has scored 19 goals! Which is, quite frankly sh*te. I think he has bags of talent but is far too injury prone.

Rhodes is not proven at Premiership or even Championship level but two things that are proven:

    1) He is a natural finisher with 180 games 97 goals. OK at lower levels than Vaughan but then so were Holt and Morison and look how well they did last year! 25 goals between them!

    2) He is far less injury prone than Vaughan!

Rhodes is also 2 years younger than Vaughan at 22!

It would be a gamble but if we could get £2m for Vaughan use him as a make weight for Rhodes at £4m I would take that because if nothing else you have a player who is more likely to play games (barring a ridiculous injury but you take that risk with any player you buy).

All this if we can work out a good wage packet that doesnt break the bank (although Vaughan must be on a bit so that would be freed up!) and unless we can find a better more experienced player for the same price... unlikely! Rhodes fits the old Lambert young and hungry type and, for me, would be well worth the gamble.
