2008 Prolific [d] Richard Hughes Richard Hannon 1:11.13 2009 Dick Turpin Richard Hughes Richard Hannon 1:11.31 2010 Libranno Richard Hughes Richard Hannon 1:11.48 2011 Harbour Watch Richard Hughes Richard Hannon 1:10.23 This record makes me think MASTER OF WAR is a very good bet in the Richmond tomorrow at 11/4.
Three I really fancy as betting propositions tomorrow. Goodwood 2.45 Master of War 11/4 Galway 4.50 Drive Time 7/1 (can't see this losing in these conditions) Stratford 2.20 My Horse Harry 9/1 and another one... Stratford 3.55 He's Our Lad 6/1 each way. Can't have this out of the three.
Goodwood 215 Hefner 12/1 cos Johnston cant win the 1st race 3 days in a row! Goodwood 245 Ahern 2/1 cos he was so unlucky at R.AS missed the break and then the quicker ground this time is in his favour Goodwood 315 Simenon 4/1 cos he's in form, Frankie is past it and the Oxx horse isnt winning! Goodwood 345 Midnight Soprano 8/1 when this comes in its all Bada Bing Goodwood 420 Botanica SP has the draw and is progressing with further improvement expected over extra furlong Goodwood 455 Dutch Rose 8/1 another inform horse and Dutch Art progeny used to be all the rage!! Goodwood 525 Silver Lime 4/1 current fav and no fav has won this in 7 runs so thats a good enough sign for me! Nothing complex, nothing studious about my method but this is the formula that gave you all Tweet last week cos the site had opened on Twitter!! And thats why people dont call!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Horrendous day for my selections on Wednesday. Saddlers Rock would be my clear favourite on another track but with Goodwood being so unique and Saddlers Rock looking so keen, I wonder if he'll be unsettled or tire late on. Therefore I'm prepared to chance LOST IN THE MOMENT 9/1 (3.15) NAP who ought to be absolutely primed for this after two runs over inadequate trips and will have been campaigned to peak towards mid-late season, and now we have reached August we should see an upturn in his form. Opinion Poll is a wonderful horse who is better in soft ground. He was lucky to beat his stablemate last year after he had an unbelievably unlucky trip. Silvestre De Sousa rides him today and I'm concerned because I haven't seen a jockey look so out of depth as much as he has for Godolphin this season. I think his tactical awareness in races where he cannot simply dominate from the front has been poor and I'd like to see him nurse hs horses into a race that bit more and establish a rhythm. However I wonder if he will play to the horses advantage today in the sense that he ought to race more prominently than last year and therefore if he settles well, he won't have any excuses. He ran an absolute stormer in the Melbourne Cup and looked the winner at 2 out, travelled powerfully and was getting up on the inside. I think had he have held a better position earlier he might have skipped clear and gone very close. He has a big prize in him. The Richmond is a seriously poor affair with Ahern being a lot of hype, and I think if you read into Master Of War (NB) a bit more you realise that his 9th at Royal Ascot was a much better run than it sounds and that truthfully he sets the standard here. Strong at the finish and can see him coming late to nab it at the line. MICA MIKA showed why I hate handicaps today but my interesting handicap runner of the day is undoubtedly 2.15 Pilgrims Rest 16/1 who shaped very well behind Stature last time out and who is beginning to look like living up to a smart pedigree after showing glimpses in maidens last year.
Banker of the day Dazzling Susie 14.25 Galway Tipped it up last time when it won very impressively beating Carlito Brigante among others with a Sanctuaire-esque performance and can see it doing exactly the same again tomorrow. Currently 6/4 with paddy power i think its an absolute steal at that price. At Goodwood i like Saddlers Rock in the Goodwood cup, my one worry is whether he will handle the track but im confident that a faster pace may help him settle better and i dont think the field is particularly strong. Getting 4lbs off colour vision i think he has the beating of that rival and i think saddkers rock will take all the beating here. Master Of War represents hannon and hughes who have a very good record with in this race so will be having a small bet along with Estimate who can hopefully carry on her improvement and take this getting plenty of weight off most of the field
It's rare me and you post the same strong fancy RV and the last time we did I believe was a winner, so here's hoping.
I think the absolute world of Saddlers Rock and was extremely bullish about his chances in the Ascot Gold Cup where he pulled the arms of Johnny Murtagh for half the race and still did ran an incredible race in my eyes to finish as close as he did but I couldn't be playing at 2/1. Firstly Goodwood's undulating track may not suit at all and I don't think the step back to 2m is ideal either. Last year at Doncaster he was outpaced over 2m2f and although now a 4 year old he shouldn't have that problem its definitely a concern. They went an absolute crawl in the Ascot Gold Cup hence why he pulled so hard which shouldn't happen tomorrow and although I think he is definitely the horse to beat he's a bit too skinny in my eyes at present.
When i look at this race the problem i get is that outside of saddlers rock and colour vision i just cant find anything thats good enough to beat them especially of level weights in saddlers rocks case. He is proven as one of the best stayers in the business and i dont think any of the others are up to that class in all honesty. I agree that its not a great price but when i think about it it seems to be a pretty good price given the level of form it brings into the race compared to the rest
I can't see past Ahern in the 2:45. Lovely horse, improving with every run, justifies the hype in my opinion this horse
After my abysmal selections yesterday (although it's not the last we've heard of Ghurair) I offer up two others to steer clear of today. I think Estimate is a seriously good horse and against older horses will prove she's not just a two-miler in the fillies and mares group 3. My other selection is Supernova Heights. This filly ran a perfectly acceptable debut at Newmarket in what was probably a good maiden. She had already been entered for the Lowther at York but following that run she got an entry into the Fillies Mile and 7f now is probably more suitable than 6f. This filly will go to stud anyway, as she's probably the last female at Ballymacoll from the Gaily/Pilsudski family and so a valuable item to them. But I expect her to go in today despite the tough opposition.
5.25 Goodwood CRESTA STAR 16/1 Steadily progressive in 2011, and has continued to go the right way in handicaps this year, good second of 7 to Expert Fighter at Newmarket last week. JOB DONE!!
It's taking a lot on faith to back Saddler's Rock to reverse RA form with Colour Vision imo, despite the latter's 4lb penalty. The pair really should have this between them, and at the prices it's the Godolphin colt for me. Maybe a small reverse exacta also.
For me Mark Johnstons Switzerland and Heavy Metal are each way plays in the 2.05 and 2.45. I will also play Wild Coco,Campanology and Prophesy in the 3.45,4.55 and 5.25. Have a good day all.
You're forgetting one important statistic RV: No trainer has ever won the race 5 times on the trot. please log in to view this image ****ing stats.
