Firstly for the record: 1. I don't think football should be in the Olympics 2. If it is it should be a pure U-21 or U-23 without overage players or amatuer or open to all 3. I am pleased that our pre-season is not being disrupted by having players in the tournament However that being said I was surprised at how poor Team GB were and how much better they could have been with players who actually play in the PL rather than the reserves of the top few clubs and Championship players. Looking at our squad I reckon we could have had Rudd/Steer, R Bennett, E Bennett, Howson, Pilks, Butterfiled and possibly Vaughan in contention all of who would probably do a better job than the bunch of over-paid primma donnas who minced their way round Old Trafford last night. After the debacle of the Euro's I suppose I shouldn't have had high hopes but after that "performance" I doubt I'll be tuning in to watch Team GB (why can't we just be Great Britain?) again. I can't see any of our players getting a look-in for England although at least we have three Scotland and two Welsh internationals on the books. Plus a Canadian.
i thought team GB were diabolically bad last night - even worse than england to watch. no creativity, no attacking prowess, poor tactics, poor players, poor manager... best player was bellamy by a mile and a half and i think that says a lot. there just isn't the quality coming through the system that some would have you believe - they are almost all overrated.
Also, poor management to allow Richards to abandon his defensive duties for that free kick. Should have been focussed on seeing out the game at 1:0, not scoring a second so late on.
Also, i wonder how many premiership managers was watching that game from behind a sofa with all those tackles going on!
How did Pearce go from fully commited "Psycho" player to incompetant FA "Yes Man" as a manager What a transformation!
Yes, just like old times wasn't it Guru! The good old days, when it was a proper man's game. What I loved were the clenched teeth in evidence when players offered a hand of apology in true Olympic spirit ......
What a pathetic start to the Olympics. Womens football, no disrespect but it just doesn't hit the spot. And TeamHeeBeeGeeBee in their Stella MacCartney designer strip looking like a bunch of parks players. Do you really think Every Mother in Laws favourite Bellamy meant to hit it into the ground first? Can they please credit us with some intelligence to see the match for ourselves. I like Jonathan Pearce but for fcuks sake, he orgasmed every time Giggs touched it. I couldn't believe it in the first half, him and Beehive Lawrenson eulogising over a Danny Rose cross that went to one of their players. Thats their last chance. Fcuk the football, bring on the individual synchronised swimming.
I was waiting for the stat on how long Danny Rose was in the air compared to his feet! I used to be a no nonsense defender myself and i hate all of this non-contact crap that the game has turned into, but i must admit even i would have been embarrassed by some of those tackles. did anybody count up how many final warnings their number 10 got? Also, your not telling me they only had 3 players over 23!!!!!!!!!!! they were built like heavyweight boxers.
