Scorer of the fastest Premier League goal too, bizarrely.

Ledley King, absolute class act legend. Coming to prominence in the light of Solgate, never looked back since. Absolute champion of the game, I can even remember watching videos of him to try and mirror his play at local league. Glad he's staying at the club, hopefully in a few years we'll see him in a more prominent role. Can't believe he's retired, feels like the dog just died.

Parker or Kaboul, at a guess.

I would say Parker, great candidate, don't know why I thought Dawson, mainly because he used to cover.

Dawson was captain for a while, so the thought was valid. Whether he will be again i don't know. I feel that he won't suit AVB's high defensive line and might be behind Kaboul and Verts in the pecking order to play.
I'm gonna put my money on Kaboul and AVB might like Sandro ahead of Parker.

  7. A truly great player - when you watch Ledley and see how easy he made the game look, you look at the others around him and wonder why they can't do that!!!!!

The right decision for him and the club, but equally important for him to main part of the set up. Ambassadorial role for now, but hopefully he will get his coaching badges and be able to guide our youngsters. Having said that, so much of his quality was natural and instinctive, you wonder whether he would actually be able to impart any direction from the sidelines.

Anyway, for now - ALL HAIL THE LEDS!!!!

Parker does deserve it as he is a good leader and he is very reliable, top player for England and Tottenham so it would suit him.

The best defender I've seen at Spurs, deceptively fast and a great reader of the game. He could have been amazing if he had had better luck with his fitness.

I know he is going to be an ambassador but is there anything about if he will become a coach because it would be good if he did become one.

Parkers coming to the end of his first team career, I can't see him getting ahead of Sandro next season, so putting him as captain might cause a bit of friction in the squad if he's stripped of it later on. I think Kaboul or even BAE as an outside bet.

BAE? The hilarity of him being captain would wear off pretty quickly watching the shambolic organisation on the field due to him LOLing too much.

Ledley always struck me as a bit of a gentle giant. You could even say shy. I wonder whether he's cut out for coaching/management and indeed whether he actually wants it.

In response to the Captaincy questions, i'd say parker and VDV are captains based on the clubs kit photo's.

Shame that King is retiring, we were all calling for it for a while as we didn't want to see him struggle, but doesn't make it any better. I have a feeling Jan will give us something to cheer about though.

It was rumoured but perhaps that was people making the logical step rather than actually knowing anything about it.

Maybe it's something for the future, he's just finished another injury hit season and might want to take a couple of years out before taking up coaching and starting his badges. Given how bad his knees are, I think he'd be wise to leave it for awhile, doing the badges and coaching could still take it's toll on him.

Was a fantastic player, just a shame he had problems with his knees.....Would have kept one of either ferdinand or terry out of the England first team.....which would have been nice.

He managed 4 more seasons than many thought he would, but just thanks for ALL the seasons he was King at Spurs.

Well the captaincy in itself is purely a cosmetic role nowadays, and if there's any player on the pitch who's got his head screwed on properly its BAE. As down to Earth as they come, and maybe we need a bit of that in the changing room.

Although more than likely it will be Parker...

He needs it screwed on properly otherwise he'll lose it with a strong gust of wind with that hair.

  20. Without doubt one of the best centre halves English football has ever produced. Revered and respected by every player in the game, both on and off the field. A fantastically loyal servant to our great club, and one whom we, as fans, have never doubted would always be there for us, playing for the shirt and for us.

Thank you, Ledley, for the loyalty and respect you have shown to us fans, and for having proven to us, in a cynical world, that there are still a few players out there who are not in it merely for the money.
