Reports claim that we are having discussions with Napoli striker Edinson Cavani over a possible move to us. What are your opinions on this? Even though Edinson Cavani is a quality striker I still believe Torres has a lot to offer and he is our main man upfront. But if we reach an agreement with Napoli for Cavani then I'll welcome him with open arms. Still don't think three strikers is enough. That's probably the reason we are looking in that department.

Cavani looks a class act alright. Thing is we just cannot stand still and hope Torres delivers. He has to this season, its as simple as that.

Yes Torres has to deliver this season especially with Drogba out the picture. Spending 30 million + on Cavanni wont help Torres though as we'll be back to the same situation last year.

Personally I think we have 3 very good forwards in Torres, Sturridge and Lukaku (potentially). So maybe we should just stick where we are. I'm sure if need be we could bring someone in from the youth team if injuries/suspensions etc arose and then there is always January as well. Don't see the point in spending 30 million + on a striker so that he or our 50 million striker spend most weeks on the bench. Danny also needs more game time up front.

Cavani is incredible, like a mix of Drogba's power and the technique of Suarez.

Pretty sure Juventus had a 40M euro bid rejected earlier in the summer though, he'll be very very expensive.

If so then I'm sure we'll buy another forward. Torres and Danny as only proper forwards for the whole season? No chance.

I'd only have Cavani if we sold Torres. Waste of money to have Torres on the bench all the time.

Exactly. The blend of Torres, Sturridge and Lukaku looks good to me. Established number 9, quality but improving back up and a youngster. All can play up on their own and all have good pace. Would like to see Bamford get a run out in the league cup too.

Agreed, looking forward to seeing Torres next season without Drog keeping him under pressure. Sturridge will want game time aswell an I personally would like to keep Sturridge and buying Cavani would prevent him staying surely.

Even assuming Torres stays injury free, Danny will still get plenty of games, starts and subs. If he wants to be a Chelsea number 9, he'll have to accept a season or 2 as back up first.

Afraid I dont share the enthusiasm for Sturridge, for me he's miles from the finished article. Also hope we dont play Torres as lone striker. When we did last year, he got knocked pillar to post by bigger defenders and hardly ever got the ball aimed for him.
I'd love to see Cavani come to us, and played with Torres as Napoli played their 2 strikers. Will believe in Sturridge when he gives his all for the whole season wherever hes played, not half a dozen games when in his favourite position. Not going to happen.

To be fair Danny was one of our top 2-3 players under AVB and that was with him playing out of position. He is a centre forward really and banged in the goals for Bolton in that position. Until he gets a run at number 9 we don't really know how good he can be but there is no doubt his finishing ability and greed make him an ideal forward!

Torres can play lone stricker as long as we don't pump balls up to him ala Drogba. Torres' best form was playing up on his own for Liverpool getting threaded passes from Gerrard and Alonso. Hazard, Mata and the like should give him better service this year.

Don't disagree with Cavanni and Torres but can't see us changing our shape that much, especially when we are buying midfielders and wingers that would compliment the 4231 system so well.

Think your right, thats why I was hoping for a Modric type midfielder to play the through balls. Hope one of our guys can do it.

I've said it many times before; we need 2 top players for every position (3 keepers), 2 utility players and 2/3 youngsters. We have that squad now (with the exception of a new RB). I think that Torres, Sturridge and Lukaku are enough for us to cover 1 position. Add anyone else to that mix and someone is gonna get bit miffed and under perform.

As for the 3 behind the front man, I think we're all set there too. Ramires/Marin Hazard/Oscar Mata/DeBruyne with Yossi as extra cover. Nobody else required!

The 2 holding midfielders.... Now theres where I think we'll see some people leave/loaned. Lampard, Mikel, Essien, Romeu, McEachran, Meireles.

    Back 4 pretty much ok; New RB/Hutch, Terry/Ivan, Cahill/Luiz, Ash/Bertrand.

So IMO (assuming we get Oscar) we only need a new RB before the season starts.

    A right back for sure.
I really don't think Torres,Sturridge and Lukaku are enough. Lukaku is still learning and an injury/suspension leaves us very short. I think Hulk would be ideal, covers wide right too but that seems dead deal now.

I think Ivan is auto. 1st choice right back for us, with Hutch and young Kane think were well covered there.
For mine, we do need another striker. Lukaku looks bound for the top, but needs a year with the 1st team, Sturridge I have some doubts about, and Torres has yet to show he is the answer. If he comes good, and I expect he will, still think the other 2 are a drop down in standard at this stage. Would love to see Cavani with us, more than a new right back.

I'd have Cavani in a heartbeat, for me he's in the top 4/5 strikers in the world
