I'm fine with variations of 4-4-2, I'm also fine with 4-4-2. What I'm not fine with is shoving players out of position just to fit new formations - for example a few people seem dead set on shoving Rodriguez on the wing.

I guess you could try dropping Lambert to the bench and playing Rodriguez down the middle. Not that that would be deserved given his contribution last season. There are loads of forwards around who play wide and score goals. Playing wide isn't so much about hugging the touchline and inch-perfect crosses. There aren't many who still play like that at the top. Hard work on its own won't be enough in this league and we'll need a tactical quirk to rise above the crowd. Think of 442 like smoking - nasty habit which does more harm than good, but darn difficult to stop.

Playing with one centre forward doesn't mean we have to be defensive. It just means we'll have a bit more bulk in midfield and be able to retain the ball. Not like Spain do, but to the extent that we can reasonably comfortably get the ball from 1 end to the other without losing it or going long. Our defence do have limitations and they won't last long if they constantly have their backs to the wall.

Sky Sports News' Graeme Bailey tweeted about Clyne:

"He wants Southampton, so others have seemingly backed off now."

and when asked if this was the 'exciting transfer' he spoke about a while back:

"No."

Mateo Musacchio, Argentine International rumoured to be joining us. 21 year old CB from Villareal for 7 million euros. Most likely total b*llocks but I thought I would throw it in there as people are craving a CB to cover JH and JF.

Thought he claimed he never said anything about a signing?!
