So lets hope that Snodds can see the ambitions the club are hoping to show him and he signs a new contract. Great there's our skipper. But if he sees that we have no chance again this season he'll probably be off. If he stays to run his contract down would you keep him on as skipper knowing he'll be gone in january for a small fee, or at the end of the season on a free. Will Drury play enough to warrant being skipper or will he give it to Pearce or even either of the Paddy's. Thoughts?
I wouldn't give it to Drury. I'd definitely consider Pearce though, seems a good shout for it not that many of us know what he is like yet. I wouldn't give it to Kenny as I don't like the idea of goalkeepers being captains but I think thats probably where Warnock would look. If Brown was a bit younger I'd give it to him without hesitation but I doubt he'll be playing week in week out so probably would be a bad idea. We still have signings to make so its kinda hard to say who I'd definitely want but at the moment it'd be Pearce
My view on Snodds is that the time has come for a decision. Pre season has started, and he's either with us or he's not. We don't want him to go to the Cornwall bonding trip if he's going to leave. We must have this season's captain appointed before Cornwall. The team must know who their leader is - and someone who can't make up his mind is not a leader IMHO. Warnock has shown his hand, and whilst he's not signed everyone he wants to yet, it's clear that he's well on the way. Snodds must decide if he trusts his manager or go. Now!
One bonus for us this coming season; we do have captain material all over the park. If Snoddy doesn't commit to the club strip him of the armband, we can't go losing two captains in 2 seasons and what does it spell to the rest of the team? We could do a Beckford with new owners in place and allow him to just run it down and leave next season or sign a new contract then if we are promoted.
As much as I hate to say it I think your right. We need to really get shape on the squad, I want him to stay but if he is only gonna leave on transfer dealine day it'll piss me off more, decision time is now and then if he does decide he wants to go at least then we can spend some money on the squad now rather than later
Has Neil Warnock not already stated that he doesn't like the idea of GK's being captain and wasn't it him who decided to give it to Snoddy in the first place. Up to now and barring a better option being signed, perhaps the best option is Jason Pearce?
Well I actually don't think Snoddy is captain material and said it when he was appointed captain that I thought Lonners shoulda kept it until the end of the season. Snoddy works hard but I'd prefer to give it to a CB or CM personally and someone who actually seems more suitable. It just seems like an extra incentive to try get him to stay at the club (which obviously it is)
"It just seems like an extra incentive to try get him to stay at the club (which obviously it is)" Completely agree and as shown at Arsenal where they have tried it with Henry, Fabregas and currently Van Persie it is not very successful.
Because being captain does not mean much anymore, more examples are Howson and Beckford I don't agree that its the right way to go about it either because your captain should be a true leader and you can't be that if your considering leaving the battle. And they also have to be passionate about the club, give it to someone else regardless of whether he stays or not
I think Warnock will know this; he places an emphasis on leadership and mentality, so won't neglect to appoint someone who's vocal and a leader by example as our captain. Ultimatums like that aren't going to give him the nudge in the right direction he's looking for.
In principle I agree with you, Jerel, but I'm really talking about the captaincy here. If he's still indecisive, we should strip him of it, whether he stays or not. TBH, I don't think he's captain material anyway. I would expect my captain to be in the referees face fairly often, defending the team, and of course rallying the troops & urging them on. I've never seen him display any such behaviours. Billy Bremner he is not!
Au contraire he spent all his time moaning and complaining to and at the officials and his own players, causing problems everywhere He is not captain material
