I would in terms of playing ability. But £5m vs a compensatory fee changes it a little.

I don't understand why people worry so much about us spending a lot of money. I know we don't want to waste money and be threatened with admin again, but we haven't really spent Oxo money yet, let alone that we have filthy rich backers and WE ARE PREMIER LEAGUE!!

Well if we spent £6m on Rodriguez, and spend just under £4m for Buttner, so let's say £3.6m, and we also bought: (estimates at fees)

    Hooiveld - c.£1.8m
    Fox - £1.8m
    Cork - £1m
    De Ridder - £400k
    Sharp - £1.8m

That would be a total spent of £16.4m - and we were rumoured to have got what? £15m for AOC? Therefore, yes we have spent that money.

Sorry, I felt like being a little pedantic.

I'm sure the Don will pay what is needed if the club think he's the right sort of player.

The more we spend, the more the club will find corporate sponsorship for everything and raise ticket prices to try to make it back. It's very much in our interest.

There is also the increased wages, higher academy spending, cost of Staplewood development etc. I don't think we have £15m sitting in a vault somewhere anyway.

I wouldn't be surprised if we spent another 20 million and wouldn't be worried with 30 or 40!!

Not what I heard, though £400k is a bit of an underestimate.

As for those saying spend loads, although we are not short of cash it's still important to be prudent. If you want us to expand the stadium, improve infrastructure, bring through young players, then you have to plan properly.

Yes, it is from Alan Nixon - but:

"Southampton should make a good signing in next 24 hours. Don't ask. Saving it for the paper. #progress"

    If it isn't, it'd be a surprise. I can't believe it's not Buttner.

    Sorry guys.

Not really. It's better to spend money on a better player than to spend little bit of money on a player that's not as good.

Better to spend 5m on him than a few k's on Clyne and go down.

That's a bizarre suggestion, that if we sign Clyne we will go down and if don't we won't.

Nixon and Fourth Official are tweeting things about us, maybe there's something in it (and I mean other than Büttner).

That wasn't what I was suggesting even though you might of read it that way.

What I meant was that if we go for the cheaper and in this case lower quality option then it might backfire and it could cost us big time,i.e,getting relegated.

    Kyle Naughton?
