To me 6m doesn't seem a huge fee for a young English player with pace and power. I mean some of the over inflated fees that have been paid recently are ridiculous. He's obviously a gamble but he has raw talent and I'd back our coaching staff to get the best out of him. He was excellent in the Cup against Man Utd, so obviously has a head for a big occasion, he's 19 of course he's going to drift in and out of games and have question marks over his temperament. Just because Ox has a maturity and temperament beyond his years you can't judge other's by his impressively high standads. I'd happilly take the unpredictable Zaha!

Totally agree. If we compare all youngsters we target to the Ox then you can start the figures at 10m plus.
Our coaching staff are second to none so i say give him a chance.

Comparing Zaha to Oxo is like comparing Messi to De Ridder.

£6m on somebody who was terrible in the Championship = :(

Glad you're not a scout of ours. Heard he was excellent against Reading on the last day of the season, and it's not a coincidence than managers make special plans for him to stop him playing. He's also won Palace's young player of the year for at least the last 2 years and they've got some pretty good players who come through their ranks (Moses, Scannell etc)

I have to agree with Saintjoey. Granted, he is inconsistent, and I have to admit I haven't seen him play particularly well either, but he's not that highly rated for nothing. People who have watched him far closer than we have can see something.

Your'e a tough customer Dan !
Although at times i do think cortese might be blinkered on the young talent front. I know we have Davis now but i do think top flight experience is required in other positions.

Id still have Zaha though i think playing with quality players can only help him mature quicker.

Didn't Reading play Birmingham on final day? :p

A fast english guy, so he must be worth at least 12 trillion :p

Yes he was good for the last 2/3 games of the season to bring his goal total up to 7 goals in over 80 games (combined with a delicious 4 assists!) Scannell isn't really very good either. I thought he was poor for Palace and he's just joined a new Championship team, not a massive tick for the academy.

I'm not a tough customer at all really :p I'm over the moon with Rodriguez and Davis, Buttner I can't really say because I've never seen him play so I'm happy to trust the scouting staff, but if we signed Zaha I'd just not be happy. I'd really, really hope he learns how to do more than just run fast though.

Just seems like another Wayne Routledge situation to me, though.

Sometimes you have to speculate to accumulate as they say. 6m is naff all these days in terms of transfer fees and if we could mold him into the Southampton way then great. Bring it on!
On a side note Fifa 12 etc has got a lot to answer for as well, players are judged by that more than ever, bit sad really.

It's not the game's fault, it's the lazy public's fault. Too many people are happy to blaze off opinions on players they've never seen play, but have used on FIFA or FM.

On that subject, I'd be happy in one way if we signed Zaha because he's incredible on FM and FIFA. Silver lining!

And YouTube <laugh>

If anyone still thinks we're going to sign another striker then you must be more stupid than I thought...

We are not QPR and we won't buy the wrong players...

I play Fifa as much as anybody but it does make me smile when this random name pops up, then all of a sudden everyone knows his darkest secrets. It does make me smile a bit.

Wayne routledge was majorly over rated mind.
