Going by the list of players the Mirror linked us with today... Gylfi Sigurdsson ✔ Jan Vertonghen Loic Remy Alan Dzagoev Jack Butland
Really don't understand why the media persist in linking us with Vertonghen, they know we're interested, they know he's interested, but unless they're going to discuss the specific financial circumstances which are stalling the deal it just makes them look moronic.
Think about it from their perspective - they can finally report something that has more than 0% chance of coming true. Out of that little list that HBIC posted - I wouldn't mind Remy and obviously JV. Dzagoev... big risk I think - he had 2 good games for Russia, disappeared in the last one and suddenly everyone wants him. I don't know what he's like at club form but I don't think we need another Pav. Butland? Hardly a marquee keeper signing although Lloris will 'only move to a club in the top 5 rankings' apparently (or words to that effect).
I'd heard good things about Dzagoev before the tournament, was widely touted as being the star player for Russia this tournament so perhaps a little more than a flash in the pan.
http://www.transfermarkt.com/en/alan-dzagoev/leistungsdaten/spieler_69683.html On the one hand, his stats do stand out - the problem is that Russian players have been remarkably inconsistent and had very poor workrate in the Premier League recently (i.e. Arshavin, Pavlyuchenko, Bilyaletdinov) and if his value is inflated after the tournament, if that trend continues we'd have chucked away a decent chunk of that transfer budget.
I wouldn't go for him despite the good things i've heard, more than anything else the language barrier for Russian players has proved to be too great an obstacle for them in recent years.
Dzagoev has been very impressive for club and country for a while. my biggest fear is him doing an Arshavin when he moves over here. - arshavin looked good too remember!! I am yet to be impressed by Remy. - really think we should be going for someone better, especially considering he's going to cost about £20mill.
What are people's views on Ba? It seems odd that no one seems to be going for him given his reportedly low release fee, unless that is just more media bullsh1t... I think a strike force of Adebayor, Ba and Defoe could be pretty useful, lots of options.
He's probably still away on holiday, WY. If the £7m release fee is accurate, then I'd be shocked if nobody moves for him.
what if he doesnt do an Arshavin? he might just surprise us and do a Pavlychenko or a Rebrov or even a Shevche...ohh wait you got a point there Roo
He has signed a contract supposedly, presumably an official announcement will be made when the compensation package is decided.
