Not working today but it's peeing down so no cricket and no gardening for me. Probably potter about the house and then watch the tennis final under a roof!.

Very quiet on footie news front and nothing likely to happen today so I just wondered what will you all be doing on this glorious summers day!?
 
It is sunny on the Island at the moment but rained all day yesterday. I intend to go to the shops as it will no doubt be raining by 9.00, then its all day Andy watch. Don't know why I do it to myself, but then Marray did it yesterday (with a little help from his friend). If he can break our 76 years of misery so can Andy. I'm just off to make a Federer doll and invest in some large pins. If you see Fed serving for the match, then suddenly going down like he's been shot, you'll know it works. Sporting I am not. Enjoy your rain...it's good for the skin:emoticon-0116-evilg
 
We have family visitors and have a reason for celebration so I shall be having a glass of champagne.

No doubt the very lovely Mrs Godders:emoticon-0115-inlov and I will also toast our beloved benefactor for his three satisfactory years of ownership.

I shall have to watch myself as my visitors are from the Thatcher loving right wing side of the family. I wouldn't want to start any arguments over politics and spoil the day so I shall restrict myself to just wearing my red tie and Arthur Scargill badge.

My favourite photographs of Harold Wilson and Barbara Castle are on the mantlepiece and the Morning Star is on the coffee table.

I shall most definitely not be watching the tennis. I hope the Scot gets stuffed. I don't think I could stomach a gloating Alex Salmond.
 
Godders, how fantastic that you are an admirer of Harold Wilson. Both he and Heath were PMs of vision and IMO shared a similar one in some aspects in wanting to drag the UK out of its sterility of the 30s to becoming a modern state within Europe and the world. Today we lack politicans of that stature and level of intellect.

I agree and although I am a socialist I have enormous respect for Heath and his stance on Europe.

In the early 1960's Harold had seen the future and was forecasting many of the things we take for granted these days.

They were both men of principle and they would never have sat back and watched as our manufacturing base was destroyed nor would they have let the sheer greed of the bankers destroy our economy and the financial well being of our citizens. I find it astonishing that Diamond took over £100 million out of Barclays as salary and bonuses and in his tenure the share price dropped by almost 75%.

Just watch this current lot of Tories and pseudo Tories (LibDems) let the bankers get away with it. During the early discussion about excessive bonuses I recall many of these casino bankers saying we will move elsewhere. Firstly I don’t think any other national banking sector would have wanted them and secondly if they had they would have saved us from this current embarrassment.
 
Talking of politics - go to some pubs in Liverpool and they would listen to you all days criticising politicans all day, in particular those of a blue persuasion. I think they do the same in many countries in Europe. Here in Fareham, and it is small talk about the latest car or gadget. I love a good political discussion. Maybe Brighton and Reading are the places in the South where political talk in pubs is allowed.
 
A leisurely read of the paper, Navratalova on Desert Island Discs and then.. Dog (surprisingly called Tigger) walking leading to beer drinking leading to further dog walking, followed by tennis watching and an evening meal of delight. Mix in the chores or tidying up, feeding the chickens etc and it's a day to look forward to...

Sounds great tigger. Not sure Mrs L will let me get away with the pub abd beer part tragically. Never has any problem with the chores bit though!
 
What moron has scheduled the British grand prix on the same day as the mens final. Well done Bernie you idiot.
 
I'm gonna do some more of this online course I started, then maybe play Fallout 3. Completed Operation: Anchorage but didn't realise their would be a dispute within the Brotherhood so I thought I'd accidentally turned them all against me. So need to re-do that. But probably watch the Murray game or F1 on TV at the same time.
 
Well, it is my wedding anniversary today, 12th, and both Mrs FLT and myself are a little under the weather (see what I did there?) and had decided a couple of days ago to have a day doing nothing. We will watch the start of the grand prix (record the rest) and Mrs FLT will want to watch the tennis.

The kids can wait on us today and we have made sure the fridge is full of easy to prepare food and their is some vino and beer there too.
 
Don't know about you guys.......Temperature where I am is a cool 25 degrees 07.10 am in the morning.....and is expected to reach 35 by lunch time.......The breeze coming off the sea (200 metres away) is keeping the flys at bay. Just seen a pelican fly by followed by a couple of sea gulls.....Just wondering if Nemo's about. Humidity not so good though around 75% at present going up 100% by lunch time no doubt.....oh well can't have it all..............

Pin your Scargill badge and your red tie on fella, but i tell you now, that they are all as bad as each other. The red lot have let the banks get us into this **** in the first place while Blair and Brown bickered over who had the biggest ego; and the could probably justifiably point the finger at the predecessors on the blue side who sold eveerything we ever had. You are right the Tories will let the bankers get away with it and the pretenders that currently accompany the blue lot will just make sure that everyone can get away with everything.

I couldn't name a current politicain who I genuinely could believe is in it for the good of the people and doing the right thing by our country, rather than forging a career.

People who "wear" a political colour and stick resolutely to it, are so far beligerent in the views that they can see no wrong by their party. It isn't like supporting a football team; you can change if it is for the better.

You are probably right about most of the national politicians in the last 35 years who have held power. However one's personal political beliefs defines the badge one wears. I can't find a political party that is electable that mirrors my badge. The reason being that the so called Labour Party no longer is a socialist party. I've just read Tony Benn's diaries of the 90's and the 'Blairitisation' that was 'New Labour' left me and still leaves me disenfranchised. At the local city level I do know 2 of our new Labour Councillors, (both Saints fans), who have only altruistic values, so maybe the more local the better..
