He`s a very good player, and does the same as Darren Fletcher does at ManU. Box to box, keeps the ball, good passer, and is there when the play breaks down. Just what we need for next season.

No but they were still premier league. If I were to say that we had just sold a player to Celtic would your first reaction be 'that must be somebody we were looking to get off the books' or '****, hope it's not Lallana'?

Probably more likely the latter seeing as they can offer UCL football and big wages, top facilities and a big ground to play in front of with passionate fans, however moronic they may be.

Personally I think Steven Davis is the most important signing of the last couple of years. It wouldn't surprise me if he became Captain and his experience in the Prem League and at International level will be invaluable and something we lack among the current squad. He's still at a good age and this signing could only be surpassed if we get Adam Johnson. Very encouraging signs, though still slightly puzzled about Buttner, as left back is just about our strongest area with Fox (about the only player with Prem experience) and many assists last year. We apparently have just turned down £4m for Shaw, though I accept he's still young and Harding isn't a bad back up. We also have Dickson on our books still though I accept he'll probably go. Unless he's pushed forward and give Adam the chance to play a free role, or even switch to the right.
Davis-Premier League with Sunderland
Butterfield-Premier League with Palace
Richardson-Premier League with Leeds
Cork-Premier League with Burnley

Fantastic signing and I would say he's a more accomplished version of Hammond. A real leader, ball winner and that bit of Steele that we are gonna need when we play the top 6 especially. On a side note I bet this took a lot of people by surprise because everyone thought it would the announcement of buttner. I certainly did!!

Do we have to do the Scottish football argument again? One word - Jos. Looking forward to this guy, not so much the snooker jokes.

The Scottish football argument is even more stupid when it's someone who already has more Premier League experience than our entire team.

I'm not saying he's a bad player, i'm just reserving judgement. I do remember him being pretty good for Villa when he first broke into the team, but then he was shifted out by them and then quickly moved on to Rangers. It makes me wonder what (if anything) happened, which creates doubts. And if we are going to prove a point by naming players, then Rudi Skacel, Craig Gordon, Barry Ferguson (in his first incarnation), Kris Boyd, Scott McDonald, Neil McCann, the list goes on. There have been successes, there have been failures. Hopefully Davis is a success.

I'm a Rangers fan and gutted to see Davo go but can't blame him with all the stuff going on at Ibrox. He's a great player and can't believe we managed to hold onto him for so long without a PL club coming in with a big money offer for him. Will create a lot of goals, the only criticism of him is that he doesn't score enough but he should do well

As for the SPL being poor argument, there's plenty of players doing well in the PL at the moment who have at one point in their careers played in the SPL. Arteta, Bellamy, Jelavic, Krul, Adam to name just a few. Also, watch out for Steven Naismith next season. Everton have just signed him, great player and should do really well, especially teaming up with Jelavic again

Of those players, Barry Ferguson is the only one to have had Premier League experience. Craig Gordon wasn't even bad, just injury prone. Are you being miserable for the sake of being miserable recently, Wisescummer? This is the best position Southampton have been in for a long, long time and all you can do is moan and try to pass it off as "being realistic woo". Just, cheer up.

I'm sorry, i'm just being honest, as are you. Unfortunately I remember too many players coming in and being disappointments (at a lot of clubs) to just blithley say that every player is going to be good. My overall reaction (as I said in my first post) is that we have gotten what looks like a solid player, but I have reservations, and I don't see the point in lying about this just because nobody else does.

Who is lying about it? We even have a Rangers fan who has given a list of recent success stories. You're just looking at everything in the most negative light possible.

No disrespect to Reading at all, but IMO Davis is a much better free transfer than Guthrie (who Simon Peach said we'd been linked to). Happy with this signing, lots of experience and another player sold by Cortese's 'ambition', may there be many more in the future!

Great I think. Can't remember much of his villa days, but sounds like the solid sort of player in in the middle that will complement Jack and Morgan. Good feedback by Rangers fan. Wow, its all go, I'm getting excited about next season!

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. I meant that I didn't see the point in hiding what MY feelings were. I wasn't implying that anybody else was doing the same. And i'm not doing it intentionally, as I said it's my honestly held view, and I don't see whats wrong with stating that.
