I will say the way my last post was worded, i didnt mean those 2 boys were journey men!
We need one or two players of proven prem quality to help cope with life in the prem.

Buttner & Butland are not the answer whether we sign them or not.
I fear for us this season. Sign a bit of proven quality (not journey men looking for a big pay day) and be competitive.
We worked hard to get here, i don't want us to be laughed back down again.

For example..?

I know Dan i know! Its great guessing about targets, but we have been linked with mainly dross in my opinion. You people on here who base their football knowledge on FIFA or FM. I just think we should pay the money for a bit of proven quality as well as young talent.

As you asked mate. I would try to get Hoillet from Blackburn if still around, Loan De Bruyne (that rumour got me excited though not prem proven) Chris Samba wants a move back from Russia and Scott Dann has been inevitable for about 6 weeks now.

I admit those examples aren't great but i don't get paid the big bucks like Nigel does.

Hoilett will surely go somewhere bigger. Samba would have to take a huge pay cut to join us, as he's currently on fortunes, Dann is good but not great, and I have no idea about De Bruyne.

I appreciate what you're saying, but this can't be done overnight. You simply cannot get the best players in when you've just popped up from the Championship. If significant progress is made, it won't be too many seasons before the kind of quality footballers you are referring to will be playing for Saints. In general, footballers are just as conservative by nature as the tired old pundits who come out with their ManU, Arsenal, etc... clichés. Top professionals need convincing, but if anyone can do it, it will be Nicola Cortese who does.

I did say the examples weren't that great
Honestly i couldn't tell you who we could realistically get as we dont know about contracts etc
But the two Butt boys (i'm sure will be up and coming) will not keep us in the prem.
To quote Hansen ....you won't win anything with kids!!........(whoops look how that turned out)

Even if we do sign those two, they will both be backup. I'm sure there are some bigger signings on the horizon - particularly in the right midfield position.

Positivity i like it. I dont post as much as others but read posts on here every day. I try to stay strong but its hard, mind you i am the only saints fan at a portsmouth company so every cloud and all that!

Why would we buy players who aren't going to improve our existing squad?

Nigel always says that he will only bring in players who will improve the squad.

NC has a dream about the kind of football he wants to see played and got a manager who felt the same way. Got us two promotions...do we really think they are going to change the plan and take the usual route of signing experienced PL players who are towards the end of their careers. Such players will find it hard to change style and fit in with us. May not work..but it's Nicola's dream and he found the money to implement it.
However, if we can't find a GK to be a young understudy to SKD and then take over, could we please just sign a GK.

Signing back-up players IS improving the existing squad.

We haven't got limitless funds. I am expecting us to bring in one, maybe two, decent squad players - either that, or young players who aren't yet ready for the first XI, but soon will be (and thus will be squad players in the meantime).

It's not really, you're essentially buying bench warmers then, what's the point in that? You're not improving the current squad you're just making it bigger.

Yes,I agree with you when you say that young players who aren't ready for first team football yet but will be in the future.

I can't see this Buttner guy being a squad player...
