Anyone else find it interesting that Lambert's first signing for Villa is a Moroccan international signed from the Dutch League, whilst apart from Whitbread and Jackson (who are at least from English speaking countries) all his signings for us were home-grown, British talent. And then Hughton goes and gets the ball rolling with a ridiculously Lambert-esque type of signing in Butterfield, when I think most of us were perhaps expecting him to be looking for some foreign gems like he did with so much success at Newcastle. Do you think with all this money and potential Villa have Lambert is going to rip up his manual and adopt a completely different approach? To be honest I don't really care what he does, but I am definitely loving Chris Hughton so far
This is interesting, but when i read it it, it was no more engaging than any other story about clubs signing new players. Lambert's just another manager now to me. but to answer your exam question, yes he seems to be changing his approach somewhat. this could have been in motion before he joins though. also looking forward to the rest of the recruits CH will make; i reckon we will see 4 or 5 more appart from whittaker and butterfield
didn't lambert say that he would be starting to look at signing from abroad when he was still our manager though? i think its just a coincidence. surprised he wasn't in for butterfield though, unless he was and we don't know! to me, butterfield is an archetypal ewan chester signing. remember, most of lambert's signings at norwich were scouted by him
Lambert said several times in the latter months of last season that he thought the well of suitable lower league talent was now dry and the answer had to be to look abroad. He must have been tracking Al Ahmadi for some time, and we know that Norway's Mohammed Abdellaoue was on our radar. No change of strategy from him in that sense. [Edit] The Birmingham Post had a report the other day that Lambert had ousted Villa's McLeish-appointed club scouts (including Roeder) and was getting his own people in. The article also said he hoped to/would like to bring in Culverhouse and Karsa .....
Weren't those foreign players at Newcastle equally scout recommendations...? No doubt the bloke they just signed to a crazy length contract?
Of course Lambert has to impress fairly quickly at Villa. I don't think they have a five year plan. I think its Europa league/domestic trophy minimum for the owners and fans. He could take a slight risk with lower league players with us as the expectation each season was consolidation but turned out, no doubt thanks to his signings, to be far more than that. So I think he will be looking for immediate quality which is probably going to mean the continent at least.
connor wickham allegedly spotted at carrow road. slightly worried as they didn't appear to be joking!
Simon Thomas just tweeted an additional but familiar face at the press conference. This has got to be the most anticipated press conference for a while.
His exact tweet "Am hearing the Norwich City press conference at 3pm may well feature an additional but familiar face! #NCFC"
you don't think we're bringing in peter grant? he was in norwich earlier. he does admittedly still have a house here. sorry... didn't want to scare anyone
