Jealousy doesn't come into it Pieking, your manager, chairman and scouts have lapped up the praise for some astute buys that has got you successive promotions, when infact all they have done is gazumped clubs like Millwall who have to opperate within a budget and search for bargain buys.
Don't worry lads, When Trotter goes to your feeder club, you can always go to Bournemouth and get another one of their rejects.
Stop trying to play the clever **** ManMountain i said 'clubs like Millwall ' and refer to when a host of clubs were interested in signing Lambert from Bristol Rovers, Millwall being one of them(but had no chance as a couple of championship clubs were in the running to sign him), however a fellow League 1 club(Southampton) were able to meet the asking price and offer a better package than any of the championship clubs, despite having no chance of automatic promotion and a very slim chance of scrapping a play-off place that season(due to the points deduction incurred through living beyond your means with the previous owners), you also spent a load of money on Jose Fonte that season as well if i remember rightly. However my main problem with Southampton was the way the Puncheon saga was handled, things had happened behind the scenes with Puncheon and Millwall took him on loan with a view to making it permanent if things worked out, the fee was more than what Southampton had payed to Plymouth originally so you would not had lost out in anyway, however your vinditive chairman decided to up the price to a million quid because he did well for us, eventually loaning him to Blackpool, but never making it permanent. You went on to **** up his move to QPR by dragging your feet and still have him. For this if i was in charge at Millwall i would not have any dealings with Southampton with regards to any offer you make for Trotter, however money talks so i would make you pay over the odds for him and have Puncheon as part of the deal, if a deal to our satisfaction could not be reached i would sell Trotter to one of your rivals was a lot less than you offered to piss your chairman off even further.
Alright Ringo A further point about Lambert, why were Saints allowed to spend a £1m on him when still in administration? We know its a two tier system in the Championship with the so called bigger clubs allowed to get away with spending outside of their means when already in financial **** street like Pompey & Bardiff to name only two but in League 1 FFS There is a massive difference in revenue between Championship & League 1 but some clubs make the rules up to suit themselves as they go along & they would never let us do it!
Alright Steve they had come out of administration when they signed him but were deducted 15 points so had no chance of promotion that season.
I'm not sure people would take it as personally as you seem to. If Milwall are still bitter and want an inflated fee we would move on and look at someone else. Also to address the point of buying lambert and fonte, our squad was decimated that summer through a fire sale of any asset to survive as a club. The new owners came in, paid off the debts and tried to build a squad capable of promotion.
It seems a pity your new owners didn't come forward before you went into administration or perhaps that was their intention to sit and wait until everything was cleared out and then rebuild with a blank canvass. Also we are Millwall not Milwall, once i can overlook but twice is just plain carelessness and disrespectful.
Ringo, I would not labour the point here, I think this guy obviously thinks underhand tatics are acceptable as long as it's a happy-clappy club. If Millwall had conducted business in this manner it would be all over the press, period.
Keep Trotter till the January window and see how he performs up to then. Last season, though injury striken, was very inconsistent. The season before, he was magic. If he carries on from last season in poor from, we can still sell him in January for £2/3M no problems. He held us back a bit last season when we had players who could have done better.
