Tottenham gazump Liverpool to sign Sigurdsson

The London club have agreed an £8m fee for the Hoffenheim midfielder, who is likely to be confirmed as a Spurs player this week after turning his back on a move to Anfield

Tottenham Hotspur have sensationally hijacked Liverpool’s move for Gylfi Sigurdsson and are expected to confirm the signing of the midfielder from Hoffenheim this week. The Londoners have agreed an £8 million transfer fee with the German club and personal terms with the 22-year-old after making their move last week. Goal.com understands Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was furious to learn over the weekend that Sigurdsson had chosen to move to White Hart Lane despite holding extensive talks with the Reds. The Iceland international worked with Rodgers during a highly successful loan spell at Swansea last season, scoring seven goals in 19 appearances, and the Ulsterman was keen to re-unite with the player at Anfield. But Sigurdsson has decided to join Spurs, despite the fact that they have no manager following the decision to sack Harry Redknapp earlier this month.

The deal for Sigurdsson is in its final stages and likely to be confirmed before the weekend as Tottenham plan to mount a challenge for a top four finish next season. Hoffenheim had given Sigurdsson leave until June 30 to sort out his future after he stalled over a £6.8m switch to Swansea when Rodgers resigned to take over on Merseyside. The former Reading man is seen as a useful addition to the squad to compete with Rafael Van der Vaart for an attacking midfield role, especially with playmaker Luka Modric almost certain to be sold this summer. - Goal.com

Seems things are not going to well for Brendan then!.....................

Is this a vote of 'No confidence' by Siggy that he doesnt believe that Brendon will last long at Liverpool? If we lose him to another team after everything that went on, im glad its not Liverpool. :emoticon-0173-middl

Can't see this post because this guy is on my ignore list. 'Class' isn't in his vocabulary I'm afraid.

How's things Loughor? Last time we met it was on a railway station in the Home Counties just before the Final last year. Seems eons ago! Hope you're well. <ok>

I think Siggy beleives his future is better with spurs than at Liverpool, which tells me he dont think Brenden is gonna stick the pace up there! a straight football choice will mean its Spurs everyday so i dont blame him for going there (if he actually does)

Borini has snubbed him now Siggy !! perhaps siggs has had second thoughts after the Brenden to liverpool fiasco and he saw a side to rodgers he didnt like?
Maybe Brenden was telling the media that siggy should talk with us while at the same time he was talking with siggy and being a bit shifty, and siggy didnt like being used in that way?
Something seems to have gone wrong, especially when you read earlier press reports about how glowing siggy was about rodgers, even agreeing to come to swansea and play for him .It will be intresting to see where he ends up.

Big problems for rodgers now, he cant even attract his mates from chelsea and reading to Liverpool!! it seems quite obvious that people within the game arnt quite convinced about the rodgers/liverpool show and are not prepared to buy into his sales pitch and plans up there. I honestly think Siggy would have signed for the swans if Brenden was here as i beleived he was more than happy in the area and the team . Liverpool fans are starting to flap already, they arnt able to secure middle of the road players for the £7m quid and below mark and Brenden rodgers has less of a pull than a micheal Luadrup of Swansea!!

Even some of the Liverpool fans were perplexed that we got Laudrup and they ended up with Brenden..<laugh>
Time will tell but its looking rocky for brenden before a ball has been kicked, hope he knows how to teach the english internationals to keep the ball longer than 5 passes..<laugh>

I don't care about this accusation of no class. for me Brenda n is a narcissist and as such in my humble opinion grabbed an exit and the 30 pieces because he was scared of the second season syndrome. His rep is up there and he didn't wan't it spoiled, he basically wouldn't or couldn't back us for next season. Well fcuk im. In my opinion HJ has done us proud ( yet again ) Michael will inspire us and the future is looking bright, can't wait for the season to start. COYS!

Hell that's so refreshing to hear from another Jack, couldn't put it better myself! Laudrup I'm sure will better Rodgers season, pleased our Board and Jenkins started the ball rolling in March, to replace Rodgers, shows we are starting to get to grips with this managerial merry-go-round! Up the Mighty Swans................ <cheers>
