I didnt think Bent looked bothered at Sunderland this season. i always take the view that if a player doesn't want to play for the club then he's best off being sold. it could even be someone like messi and at the end of the day if he doesn't want to be there the money in the bank is going to be alot more use than an uncommitted player
When you look at that pass from Young in the England game, yes he was right to go. When did he last get service like that from Henderson or Cattermole? The lad was on the verge of a regular England place, and he was always going to do better with Villa's service than with ours. In his Roker Report interview, Asamoah said Bent didn't go for the money - he thought it was a good career move. Looking at it from that point of view, yes he was right to go. No striker is going to do much good with our midfield. The fact that Bent scored four less than Drogba and two less than Rooney on our service tells you just how good he is. His anticipation, positioning and timing are brilliant (which is why he gets so many on his toe-end - he's always in the right place to get them). He didn't gell straight away with Gyan, which is hardly surprising, given the different styles of Gyan and Jones. But Gyan didn't come on stream till October, and then Bent was injured for a month. So they hardly had the time to gell did they? I don't blame either of them for that. The question now is how long Asamoah will want to stay. He's been lumbered with thel responsibility of goal-poacher, which isn't his natural game. (He's a better all round player than Bent but nowhere remotely near the poacher Bent is). If, for example, Liverpool were to make an offer for him with Carroll to take that weight off him and let him play the more expansive role he likes, would he go? I think I would if I was him.
To be fair to Bent I was not too pleased he dropped us in it but, in hindsight he probably saw what was coming and couldn't turn down the Villa offer still think it was down to cash in the end.
Bent is a total mercenary. Villa fans won't like this but, he will be off as soon as it suits. He is blessed with an in born ability to score goals even though his other footballing attributes are limited. He's a funny bloke because he never looks as if he ever derives any real pleasure from playing the game. His goals made our team look a lot better than it actually is. He showed a complete lack of loyalty in a team that was doing pretty well and Villa's fortune's have improved since he went there. Why he couldn't have seen out the season with us I have no idea. He could have left with his head held high and he wouldn't be regarded as the complete Judas he is now. I can't stand looking at the fellah to be honest.
I'm still pleased he came here though; without his goals we probably would have been relegated, and we wouldn't have attracted players like Gyan to the club.
Aye mate nowt wrong with disagreeing. Like I say it's all opinions. Doesn't stop me being right mind.
So he turns from Judas into the Oracle of Delphi. I said on BBC 606 he signed my son's top and chatted to him, he was so proud. And my son would have a go at me every time I had a pop at Bent for missing yet another sitter. He did miss some incredible sitters mind. My son was coming back from the match more and more depressed after watching Bent (and the team to be fair.). He wasn't in the least bothered when we sold him. The signed shirt has disappeared.
