Replacement for Enrique

  1. People here can discuss suggestions for possible replacements for Enrique if he leaves, but what i really want to ask is, why do people think we need to find somone AS GOOD as Enrique as a replacement?

That will be almost impossible, and if we did want a LB that was as good as him, we'd have to spend probably over 20 million quid. Baines would never come here, Cole and Evra are too old. There's 3 options that are anywhere near as good as Enrique gone.

All i think we need is a solid LB with pace and decent crossing ability. What i think we'll miss most of Enrique, are his deliveries, as we seem to be relying on Enrique and Barton for every good cross that comes into the box, as everyone else who tries to cross the ball into the box is inconsistant with their deliveries.

Instead of worrying about getting another Enrique, we should think about adding quality creative players. We don't need another amazing, world class crosser of the ball like Enrique. We need more options in the squad that can deliver the sort of crosses we are looking for, and at the moment, we're relying on Barton and Enrique for those crosses.

So i think we should stop worrying about a massive LB signing, and just worry about signing creative options that will provide quality deliveries. I think Ferguson looks awesome, but i'm just wondering what you all think? Do you think we can rely on him next season if Jose leaves? Do you need more convincing of Fergusons quality? Or should we sign a replacement and keep Ferguson as a squad player for another year?

I would say Taiwo but he seems to be off elsewhere. I;d go for a young one, not sure who but from what I've heard Jose Angel from Sporting Gijon sounds alright...

Jose Angel of Sporting de Gijon has the potential to be as good or even better than Jose Enrique.

21 years old same build and a perfect replacement for Jose Enrique

We wouldn't have to change the chant either Jose, Jose Jose Jose, Jose! Jose!:emoticon-0100-smile

Aye Jose Angel seems like a good replacement, seen his name mentioned several times. No idea on cost though.

The LB is a defender role you knobhead. We need someone to defend that side. You've barely mentioned that but you've went on and on about 'deliveries' instead.

Do. Not. Buy. A. Left. Back. Based. On. Crossing. Ability. You. Helmet. We need a LB who is going to protect that flank as best as possible. Deliveries are the second thing to look at.

Plus since when has Enrique been a world class crosser? 50% of his crosses hit first man, he's very inconsistent. Barton, Raylor and Guthrie are the most consistent crossers.

I personally think if Enrique goes we should put Jonas back on the RW, put Barton back in the centre mid and slowly blood Ferguson on the LW (with Arfa able to cover/play there if needed but mainly have him as the AM/SS role) and just find a LB to replace Enrique.
I reckon Jonas would certainly be able to link well with Simpson and probably be able to cross better since he wouldn't have to cut inside onto his other foot like he has too atm. It would also make us a lot less lopsided than we are atm.

Exactly!! But Guthrie's for Lovenkrands yesterday was one of the best i've seen in ages, and Raylor can cross just rarely finds the space to do it.

I think this is a rare occasion where I wouldn't mind signing someone older. Ferguson is close to being ready for the first team, we just need someone experienced who can do the job for a couple of seasons while he's learning. He'd also be able to learn from them.

No idea who we'd sign though. It's times like this I wish I had the latest Football Manager so I could browse a list of left backs (I obviously wouldn't base my choice on their stats, just use it to see who's about). Maybe Nicky Shorey. He's fairly steady, experienced and takes a decent set piece. I'd rate him about the same as Simpson which will do until we promote Ferguson.

I'm still hoping we keep hold of Enrique. It shows a huge lack of ambition to sell two of our best players in less than six months. What exactly would we be looking for in a replacement? Someone who can keep us in this division while we sell our best players? Are we still aiming to eventually finish in Europe? Does Ashley want to stay at the club long term? Is he stripping the club bare again or is his hand being forced by wantaway players?

If Ashley hadn't been such a **** in the past there wouldn't be all this uncertainty. I partly blame Vicente del Bosque as well. If he had picked Jose rather than persisting with that carthorse Capdevila he'd probably be more content to stay. Or at least he'd have attracted interest from Spain (I think he'd be great at Barcelona) and we wouldn't have to see him lining up alongside Judas for the scouse ****ers next season.

Yes Guthrie's cross at the end to Loven was of real quality, Loven did hit the target but should have done alot better.

Obviously I want him to stay but I wouldn't begrudge him a move abroad if he thinks it will lead to him playing for Spain.
I ****ing hope he doesn't go to Liverpool :(

Patrick Van Aarnolt (sp?) looks like he has potential, didn't see much of him when he was with us on loan but appears to be doing ok for Leicester. Though nowhere near as good as Jose at present. From what I've seen of Ferguson he looks good going forward but not so hot defending which let's face is his job at LB. Great if he can get forward and put crosses in but he has to be able to defend fisr and foremost.

I still don't believe Old Big Nose that a deal is done and dusted for £15 million.
