Didn't he come back to help out Gary Waddock in the sad, bad old days?

This has come as quite a shock. The word 'Legend' is bandied about too freely in respect of football greats, not so with Alan.
RIP Legend, I remember dancing on the pitch at HQ when you headed the equaliser against United at HQ to make it 3~3, in an FA Cup match in the early 90'a, cheers Macca.

Does anyone remember after we'd released McDonald and he joined Swindon. Of course we played them shortly after he'd joined them. Soon after the game kicks off, Swindon had their keeper sent of and they didn't have another keeper, so up steps Macca and puts on the green jersey.

Now here's where my memory becomes cloudy, I was still quiet young and the grey matter is disappearing fast, but we either missed the resulting penalty or Macca saved it, but I do remember that he played a blinder in goal and the game ended as a draw, when we should have won easily. Defeated by our own legend, playing in goal for the opposition.

    Alan McDonald, Alan McDonald.

"More recently, in 1998, when Swindon travelled to Loftus Road for a league clash, they were set back early on when Nigel Quashie gave Rangers the lead, and despite Mark Walters levelling matters from the penalty spot, things were looking ominous when Town goalkeeper Fraser Digby was sent off after just twenty minutes. With no substitute goalkeeper, former Q.P.R. legend and most capped player Alan McDonald took his place between the sticks - incredibly keeping Rangers at bay for the rest of the match. Even better was to follow - Iffy Onuora netting what proved to be the winning goal just before half-time on his Town debut. "

Thanks for moving this Northolt. I posted it before I saw your thread. I was going to delete it, but didn't know how to or if I could. Anyway thanks again.

I think all the tributes should be in one place.

How very sad - I remember him well, saw him play many games at the Bush. Wonderful guy, club hero - shockingly young to pass away.
RIP Alan - the football family is very sad.

    Sorry, jumping to conclusions again!

    Whoever moved it thank you.

I was fortunate enough to witness first hand the majority of Alan's games for the R's, and can honestly say that he gave his all every single time.

    I'm gutted.

A true Rangers legend, wore his heart on his sleeve and always 100% committed, they don't make them like that anymore. Tony Fernandes wanted a name for his QPR plane, I think he has found it: Macca

R.I.P. Alan, thank you for the memories

Hi Swords, I have never been good! But some men are, and that is a very old saying and fits dear old Mc, I hope he is with his god now.
