    Good description, I quite agree.

Messi, absolutely brilliant. Messi also seems to enjoy himself more, when he scores, the happiness is clear to see. When Ronaldo scores, his celebrations seem to be a kind of 'see I told you' or 'look at me' and maybe pointing at himself. Basically smug twat syndrome. Having a great tournament mind.

    Ronaldo.

Ronaldo can do things Messi can't. Free kicks, long shots, a big threat in the air and strong. Messi also plays for better teams, particularly Barcelona who are far better than anyone.. I mean they get 70+ possession against EVERY team 11 v 11.. that squeezes the life and energy out of the opponent physically and mentally. Obviously Argentina aren't anywhere near as good but they are better than Portugal.. Ronaldo has proven his worth in two leagues. Ronaldo is better for me.

Why don't we get both and then we can judge better over a season or so?

I love watching Ronaldo power past opponents at speed! Do you think he's a sub 11 second 100m sprinter which would be pretty phenomenal for a footballer?

I hate this myth that Ronaldo is good at free kicks. He's only scored 5 for Madrid. From memory alone Messi scored 3 last season

Considering he takes every Madrid freekick within shooting range he really does have an appalling record for someone who's meant to be good at freekicks

It was the same story at United. He hit every free kick and most flew over or into the wall, but when he did eventually score it was always stunning making people think he was amazing, even though he'd tried a hundred times. He's really not that good at free kicks.

You realize free kicks aren't easy right? No one has a good conversion rate on them. Everyone's conversion rate looks 'poor'. The keepers they are playing against aren't mugs

An example: Pirlo's free kick against Croatia is the only direct free kick goal at the euros since 2004 czech republic vs germany. They aren't easy. I can barely remember Saints scoring a free kick goal in the past few years

Ronaldo's is especially poor. He hits several free kicks a game, far more than any other player I've seen.

You are dreaming if you think Ronaldo is a poor free kick taker. If anyone thinks Messi takes better free kicks they are frankly stupid. They are only a few better free kicks takers than Ronaldo in the world

Also Messi has missed 8 out of 34 penalties... very poor for a designated penalty taker. Funny how no one mentions this. Ronaldo has only missed 2 for Madrid both very good saves. One Benzema scored the rebound and the other was a great save by Neuer in shootout. This is why I find Ronaldo v Messi arguments pointless.

You find Ronaldo v Messi arguments pointless because the only points pro-Ronaldo people can make rely on set pieces, because Messi is so much better in open play?

think i must have been referring to league goals, heard it on revista de la liga a few months back. anyway it's incredibly overrated.

messi's penalty taking is poor. nothing worse in football that missing a penalty.

messi for sure is the best player in the world, not just overall play but attitude.

different take on that penalty stat would be, considering he's missed more than ronaldo and still scores more than him every season, imgagine how far ahead he'd be if he scored them

Messi is without a doubt the more technical, but that doesn't necessarily make him the best.

I'd say it's silly to debate IMO. They're both in the top 2 best players in the world, lets leave it at that.
