Levy can hardly say "we are looking to oust our manager and go in a different direction" can he? The public statements put out by Levy are there to mostly quash incorrect speculation when needed and to reassure fans. In this case it was to reassure fans as we approached a transfer window where it was highly likely that a number of our players were gonna be linked with moves.

There is no law that says Levy must spill his inner most thoughts in press statements!

My criterion was very simple - average league position. You've highlighted some of his mistakes, the first two of which I agree with, but your last one is pure conjecture

Shame no one told Harry ;)

When the statement was made it would have been before the contract extention was talked about between Harry & Levy, which was what Harry requested back in Feb to not talk about contracts until the season was over after Levy offered a 3 year contract to put the England thing to bed before it started.

I can bet you good money Harry made it sound it was nothing to do with England and said to Levy to base the contract on the season end to get around the truth. Harry shot him self in the foot and when Levy offered a 12 month contract, clearly based on Harry actions around England, Harry didn't like it.

There is very little point in keeping a manager who would leave if England came calling again and by refusing a 12 month rolling contract shows he's not committed to the cause. He didn't like the idea that if he under performed he would be out of contract without a big pay off. To me it's a U-Turn that had to be done. People would only moan if Harry did the same England **** again and blame Levy for 'not learning' by not getting rid sooner.

Levy can't win either way at present because the future has not been writen yet

i think sanity has ensued and the managerial saga has officially sent us to the dogs.

worst thing is there are no genuine WUMs hanging on for everyone to toy with...i expect a few brawls within the camp to keep things going soon.

I've felt more or less the same things, fla. I differ a little in that I have even more faith in Levy than in Redknapp, and hope and to some degree trust he knows what he's doing. It will be (or is) demonstrated, as others have pointed out--though what we won't know is how Harry would have done this year. One point which keeps me calmer is that Rednapp was unlikely to manage too much longer, so a move to a younger manager might be the right move now.

My particular grouse is that I could have used something to feel good about in the wake of Munich. Signing Vertongen would have hit the spot. Instead we sack the manager I liked without having a replacement ready. I could feel good about Blanc, I think. I would have liked AVB except most fans seem to despise him. I will say that what I can gather about Blanc's man management is good, and what I know about AVB's man management sounds frightening.
