What force is that? Football is their national sport and they have a population of about 55mil. One tournament win since 1966 and that was fixed, thats failure if you ask me.

Our population is just over 50 Million , are you refering to club or National football ?
National football of course we have been a failure for years , we know this , but your Nation has hardly shone has it ? Christ you even had a song about not coming home too soon but that was even so ****e you failed to be inspired , your National game has had some right belters over the years
    Ally MacLeod
    Goalkeepers
    Peru
    Iran
    Costa Rica
    1st round exits
    Faroe Islands
    USA 5-1
The list could go on and on

    Club football
1 solitary European cup win before man was on the moon .
    2 Cups Winners Cups .
Thats the positives now for the present day
    Low crowds
    No money
    Awful teams
How many times have Celtic won away in the Champions League group stages ?
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-18518459
    Thats from today .
17th strongest League in Europe .
Again the list could go on .

Back onto the state of your Nations game .
Why can Croatia , Republic of Ireland , Uraguay , Denmark and Norway all with similar sized populations do very well in getting to competitions and yet Scotland simply can not do the same thing ?
How many Englishmen are in the squad now ?
Braveheart would be spinning in his grave .

Im Irish incase you think im Scottish. Yeah we are **** and so are Scotland and Wales but if England fans feel the need to brag about being better than Ireland, Scotland and Wales then they are idiots, there is no comparison in terms of population, training facilities, and players. A fair comparison to England would be Spain or Germany and that would be a laughable comparison.

3 in the cricket test team .
Trott - Holds a British passport due to parentage .
Strauss - Parents moved to England when he was .
Pieterson - Chose and the key word is there chose to play for Engladn as he disagreed with the selction policy . also his mother is English .

With all the above they WANTED to play England 1st not wanted to play for England as they could not get into or trying to get into the South Africa 1st XI .

As for the rugby I think there were 4 NZ players in the last World Cup squad and they should not play for England and some did not , there are some exceptions Alex Corbisiero , he wanted to play for England as 1ST choice , the the difference and key .

Scotland , Ireland and Wales take anyone who wants to put their jersey on , its dilutes passion ,
Is Vinny Jones Welsh ? Or would of played for Wales if he was selected to play for England ?
    No .
    John Aldridge ?
    No .
    Don Hutchinson ?
    No
    Matt Phillips ?
    No
Aiden McGeady ? Oh thats a different story , nevermind some of the players from the North you have taken , they have only done to pursuee their international career and not for the love of the jersey , crap and ****e .

The English born players in the Ireland team all qualify for Ireland, they are not breaking any rules the same way the South Africans and fake Maoris that play for England in cricket and rugby are not breaking any rules but you would think that such a once proud nation like England could produce a decent rugby team or cricket team without having to call on second rate players that cant get a game for the top teams. I can understand why Ireland do it in football because football is not very popular over here, its way behind rugby and g.a.a so Ireland would struggle to put a team together.

Really ? When I lived in Ireland it was very popular indeed , GAA only gets good attendances for Cup games and not the Leagues , with Union you only come out when your provinces play so you are at a huge advantage , Cork Con would 7 people and a dog turn up to watch them , I think you will find Hurling and Soccer as you call are not too far behind in attendance .

England has a very very good cricket team without our South African born players that I can assure you , as for the rugby ? Well a work in progress , Irish Rugby is the equivilent of the EPL so stones in glass houses there .

Oh England is very proud thank you , to my knowledge our football team (we are discussing football here but we can to continue to digress and discuss whatever you wish) has never chosen a player who did not want to be an England player 1st and foremost , no other home Nation can claim that and neither can the Republic of Ireland .
I would always like to know that the players chosen actually want to be there in the first place .

When was that the 1950s? There is a recession on incase you didnt notice so all sports are struggling to attract fans at the moment but if you knew anything about Ireland you would know that the g.a.a has always been stronger than soccer.

I hardly read anything about the Eirecom league when I lived in Dublin. It was all Rugby and G.A.A with a bit about Liverpool and United.

I'm not entirely sure what gomarchingin's point is here- of course England are better than the other home nations at football.

I lived in Ireland in the early 2000's , I have not argued that GAA is not stronger than Soccer , where have I put that ?
I am arguing that players that want to put the jersey of England on want to and opposed to the other home Natons and the Republic they are 2nd choices when the players are born in England .
We have been around the houses with cricket , rugby and GAA as well , I can discuss them as well if you wish as I happen to like most sports .

The original point was Scotlands decline in football and the lack of attendance , again I am waiting for a good defence of that , the shield deflector of small population does not wash with success and neither does it with attendance .

How can yu sit there and say 'you have a population of 55m, that's why your good' when, as pointed out, most of your better players are from our 55m?

I thought I was done with this thread cos it's full of ****wits who are just going to repeat the same **** without listening to anyone else.

    So, I'll say it slowly.

Scotland, despite falling attendances, has more people attend football matches per capita than any other country in Europe.

A higher proportion than your "greatest league in the world that's funded by ******s and will collapse soon" - and that's including all the photo-flashing tourists that fill OT, Anfield and the Emirates.

Between the two world wars, the three largest stadia on the planet were in Glasgow, since you're not interested.

I'm not commenting on this any more - never on this forum, in any thread, have I encountered more bollocks and bluster than in this thread <laugh>

Scotland's football is in decline because we overacheived for years. For every sub-5 mill country you mention, there are plenty other bigger countries who've achieved less.

This is what reasonable football fans expect.

Mongos talk their team up for every tournament to be disapointed.

I can't be arsed with the endless whitabootin' that will spew from this so, **** it.

There are only 16 million Dutchmen - they've won more Euros than England and been in more WC finals than England and are, just generally, umpteen times the international team than the over-hyped ****e you usually produce.

As for the argument that most good Irish players come from England, where, oh where would England's national game be without Scottish managers.

Who was the last Englishman to win the premiership as a manager?

Who was the last international manager for England that could even compare to Ferguson, Stein, Shankly et al?

    **** yeez <ok>

    Mon the eye-ties.

Where would English football be without Scottish managers ? The clubs would be poorer for it , but for all you superb managers they can not manage to raise the profile nor the quality your game .
Your numbers game is weak as I have pointed out it's so disproportionate as rangers or celtic play , what would it be without one or both ?
England shall fail sadly I suspect against Italy simply because we don't have the quality .
Our Leagues are strong all the way through unlike yours and others throughout the planet , if you are like most Scots you support rangers or Celtic are there lies the problem , your chairmen in the north would sell their soul to cone down here , that must hurt , your own conspiring to move against the will of the people , proud scots ? That's for you to answer .

As for your managers comfort blanket ,

    Bill Nicholson
    Brian Clough
    Alf Ramsey
    Bob Paisley

Ferguson is in a class of his own .
Look back , look back .

Ferguson got a lucky break, Manchester united sold out to foreign money and they gave him an open cheque book, up until then his record at MU was pretty ****, 1 FA cup in 5 years, only just beating Palace in a replay. After the money came in and he started breaking transfer records right left and centre it changed. It was bit like the SPL is going to be next year, one team (Celtic) has more money than most of the rest put together, the only difference is Cetlics money has been got through success rather than just being given it.

Are there any other nations in Europe with a population of 5m that are as bad at sport as Scotland?

Is this all sport? Didn't their rugby players record the only win by a Northern Hemisphere team in the southern Hemisphere this summer? Isn't Andy Murray rated no 4 in the world? I think Chris Hoy is in the running for an Olympic medal again and there's a few other Scots in the cycling team. There's also a rower who's going for a third consecutive Oympic medal. Yep - there are countries that would love to be that bad at sport.
