Has a definite decision been made about in which race he will run at Royal Ascot? I see he is still being quoted for the Queen Anne Stakes.

I would love to see him take on Frankel but I suppose that won't happen.

Has SYT ever raced on soft?
 
I was wondering whether AOB might just be plotting a crack at Frankel. They've spent a fortune on the horse and what better way to regain some cred? Huge ask though, but the stable showed last time out that they were keen to chase the big ones. Even if he gets beaten, but gets reasonably close, it will be a step in the right direction. If he was mine, he'd be chasing Frankel.
 
Won his debut as a 2YO on Gd/Soft. Won a Gr2 from Whobegotyou on soft at Caulfield over 7F, and also a couple of 10F G1 races on Gd/Sft (Cox Plate and MacKinnon stakes) before finishing 3rd to Americain in the Melbourne Cup over 2m on soft.

He's never raced on anything worse than good for AOB.

Logic would dictate Excelebration going for the Queen Anne and SYT going for the Prince Of Wales but maybe they'll throw a curve ball and do it the other way round - take on the mighty Frankel with SYT and try Excelebration at 10F? That way they have much more potential to improve the stud value of each horse. Excelebration has nothing to gain from being beaten by Frankel again but if he could take the PoW over 10F it would really add value to him as a stallion (although it has to be said his breeding doesn't scream 10F - Exceed and Excel progeny are typically 6-8F animals). As Cyc says, having a crack at Frankel with SYT might just be tempting them...................... would add some sparkle to the opening race on Tuesday that's for sure <ok>
 
If he took on Frankel on soft that 10/1 would look very tempting.
 
Big fan of this horse but honestly save your money lads this horse is SLOW. He can't quicken with the best 10-12f horses around Frankel will leave him well behind.
 
If they go end to end gallop to make it a stamina test I wouldn't be too sure.

Not sure about Frankel on soft. Only encountered it once and ran well enough to beat Nathaniel on début but that as also Nathaniel's only race on soft.

Doesn't matter what they do pace wise it will never defeat Frankel. Cecil is not so daft to let it happen. He has the best pacemaker around (Bullet Train) if O'Briens goes to the front they will just let him and the rest will not follow. No good just one horse trying to make it a stamina test ;). SYT is mega slow no chance over 1m. Not even be in the 3.

The going is currently Gd/Soft (see going report here) and I think that's what we'll start on, maybe creeping closer to good depending on how heavy the rain is through tonight and how warm and windy it gets thereafter. Certainly don't think we'll have soft ground.
 
I wouldnt underestimate the step down to a mile, particularly at G1 level. Remember when AOB ran Cape Blanco in the Queen Anne last year, he was already off the bridle after 4 furlongs, and he was a top class 10f horse.*

There would be little if any point backing SYT ew for the Queen Anne, first of all the win part of your bet is as good as gone, as there is no hope of him beating Frankel, and I wouldn't even bank on him landing a place, as at 6 years old he's not getting any faster, and should be going up in trip rather than down.*

AOB knows this aswell, his entry is nothing more than a PR stunt from Coolmoore, to let future breeders think he has enough speed for a mile. He won't run in the Queen Anne, I can guarantee you all that :biggrin: *
 
With all due respect, the race goer in the UK has not seen the real So You Think. He is capable of a real turn of foot. AOB has looked to train the horse ina European fashion where stamima is the key, this has blunted the horse's speed. The link below shows what the animal is capable of. Admitidly, this is three year old form, but it shows what he can do. As far as I'm concerned, there is no way he'll be beaten out of a place.

I wouldn't say SYT is slow. He was just touched off by Rewilding at last year's Royal Ascot in the fastest run race of the day, having gone 2l clear 2f out. In the Eclipse he beat Workforce in another fast run race (exc the 2m marathon, was the fastest of the day again). You can't call a horse slow if he clocks fast times.

Looking at his Melbourne Cup run on soft
"Always going well in 6th or 7th, closed up 4f out, 5th and closing on outside 2 1/2f out, led over 1 1/2f out, soon ridden and ran on, headed approaching final 110yds, unable to quicken, lost 2nd final 50yds"

This shows that he clearly goes well on soft.

His run at Royal Ascot last year shows he likes the course but couldn't quite hang on over the 10f on fast going.

If he can lay up with top horses in fast run races on fast ground and is also comfortable on soft then, as long as it stays soft for Ascot, I would be very tempted to take on the mighty Frankel. What is there to lose?

With all due respect Cyclonic, he made all the running in a 10f race, that hardly proves he has the speed for a mile.*

I'm also of the belief without wanting to cause any offence that the middle distance racing here in the UK is far superior to the racing down under.*

I'm not saying SYT isn't a good horse, but he's come up a little short when he's faced the very best over here, in America and in Dubai.*

Blaming the trainer seems an easy thing to do, but if anything SYT probably improved by going to O'Brien. AOB is one of the best trainers in the world, having won G1s all around the world, in comparison how many races has this Bart Cummings actually won outside of Australia? :biggrin:*
